My recently purchased T5 goes well but sometimes clouds of bluish/white smoke stops tailgaters getting close! Once fully warmed its minimal or absent. It's been suggested turbo bearings/seals. I've noticed no unusual noises.
Any suggestions?

I also have smoke but only on some start ups (cold). Also when left to tick over

for a long time (hot) ,and then the first strike of the throttle will make 1 puff of blue smoke !

128,000 miles I have been told the turbo oil seals could be at fault.

Ps. It still flys

Cheers

Karl that aint the turbo Mate, thats your oil valve stem seals! I have a brand new turbo on my car and it did that, well until I changed 10 of them!
Don't worry about it and it is a head off job to change them, only something like a pound each from volvo but aroung £600 labor to change them!

Sorry mike, guess i didnt make my self clear, It sounds like Karls Valve stem oil seal are on there way out, it does sound like your turbo is on it's last legs, does it give off smoke for a few secs after you come off the power (full throttle) when warm?

Thanks for update...It seems to smoke at idle or low revs, today I regassed the ac and switched off, ran again a few mins later while fully warmed up and at idle it poured out white smoke..revved slightly and after about a minute it cleared. At high revs it seems ok. If it is the turbo will it suddenly go? I cover long distances and don't want to be stranded.

If it is white smoke mate, i wouldnt say it was the turbo! White smoke tends to be water, have you checked the coolant level?? Some turbo's will go straight away, but there is normally a load whistel for a bit befor it! talking from experience

Its mainly white but not steam, also slightly blue sometimes. No loss of coolant, oil and water all look as they should. It runs well and is returning 33mpg. Mike
