Bit pi$$ed off at the moment... cars only 2 months out of warrenty and the passenger side front headlamp has really bad condensation... i mean really bad!

Require a new headlamp or if they do some sort of new rubber seal... i don't know.

Volvo Part No. 31299615
Volvo want £621.51!

What do I do?????!!!!

I've had someone say to me to drill a hole in the back... not doing that!!!

Can you not take the back cover off and stick a hairdrier in it for a while?.

Remove the headlamp unit and keep it in the airing cupboard for a day or two!

Vaseline around the rubber seal should stop any further ingress if it's just a slight leak I would have thought.

Don't let them rape you for £600+ and if you have to get a replacement unit have you tried FRF Volvo? (google em, they're active on the forum)

have you tried phoning local parts suppliers,
the head light is realy easy to remove, 10 seconds.
if its got a clip on lense,....you should be able to remove and reseal with a bit of time and care...........
still amazes me how a bit of cheap plastic can be so expensive.......
alternativly is bigger breakers yards that deal with newer cars etc.
or there is the internet (find a part.com ) etc or somethin like that lol

If you're not handy with cars, give me a shout - I'm in Hatfield and don't mind helping out with the spanners, once you've got a plan?

Thanks guys for the replies and offers - wow! Especially you Al115.

I might try first off then removing the headlamp myself... is it easy on these?

I'll try looking at the back of it, look at the seal and see what its like.

Cheers!

Well, I took the light out in 5 mins!

All it was, was a long metal pin, slide it up and then wiggle the light out.

Took the back off, then put it into my works drying cabinet...

Took the rubber seal of the back, put some vaseline on it, and poped it back in.

Only problem is the drying water stains inside now... not that bad, but hey.

Also T5_Monkey, emailed FRF Motors (Volvo) Ltd... wow really helpful, guys name is Simon. They quoted me below:

LH Active Gas Discharge Headlamp: [31299619] *Backorder, 2 to 3 weeks approximate.
Retail Price £604.80 / Our Price £495.94
(18% online customer discount off this item)

Very good discount, but still expensive bit of kit. I just hope what I done today is good enough.

We shall see.

Thanks T5_Monkey for your advice, your a decent chap.

Well, it didn't work.

Had it apart, as best I can... even re-done the clips on the back... dried it out good and proper in my works oven, at low temp for a whole day.

Its a bit better, but there still is condensation in the light.

Rung Pilling Volvo in Hemel Hempstead, I know them very well... great bunch of people, even know the main brothers who own the company, my dads known them for donkey's years.

I've been chrome plating their classic cars for awhile too.

They managed to get Volvo UK to pay for 70% of the cost of a new one.

So in the end its gonna cost me just over £180. Which ain't that bad, considering... however, still alot of money to part with.

Getting it done next week.

I'm sure Xenons are good... but makes me kinda glad I'm a halogen lad!

Glad you got 70% of the cost covered that's the least Volvo could do with your car being so new
