View Full Version : Bloody crappy oil seals

I'm raging at the moment.

Today I took delivery of my camshaft oil seals (after the engine unloaded all of its oil last week and with it being christmas getting new ones would take a while). So out I went and removed the camshaft sprockets and replaced the bad seal with one of the new ones, no problem. Then I took the other cam seal out, and tried to fit the other new seal. No such bloody luck.

Checking the seal size against the old one it was a fraction larger and wouldn't go in no matter what I tried, the part numbers were the same on both the new packets (the wrong seal packet was different though and had 'made in taiwan' on it and also had a scamtech 'certificate of quality' inside it), bloody scamtech crap.

So now I've got to get another seal so it will be another week at least as no one will be in until Tuesday.

AAAARRRRGHHHH Dammit.

So back into my dad's volvo for the next week or so

Rant over LOL

On the plus side I changed my thermostat and one of the intake hoses, so at least I got something done.

Either I've been lucky, but my volvo dealers has always got parts like seals in the next day, longest I've had to wait is 4 days for my R clutch from Sweden.

They were often cheaper than aftermarket parts too.

Have you found out why it pushed the seals out in the first place?

I've checked the PCV system and all is ok, the old seal was also a pattern part from when I did my headgasket a couple of years ago, it was quite loose in its seat and all the inside of the seal had worn away, so I guess it just worked its way out with help from the oil pressure and the camshaft turning. Think its been leaking a tiny bit for a while, but hadn't thought to check the seals.
