daft question but did all the 850s have 2 ecus in or was it just the later 1s etc

Only the Automatics have two ECU's mate.

As for compatibility si... yes it will work in your car :)

I would get the numbers from the ECU, and check that they are they same as your ECU.

Something doesn't add up, as he said he's tried the ECU in an 850, and a C70. The 850 have a Motronic 4.3 ECU, and the x70 series have a Motronic 4.4 ECU. You cannot swap ECU's between 850's and x70 series cars, they are not the same.

You can put a 4.3 into a 4.4 car to start it. I've tried it before but I did not take it out for a spin. I was not sure if all the functions of the 4.4 could be realised and don't want to risk getting stranded in the middle of the road.

so if ive got 2 ecu s, which 1 would i change if i bought this? Also where are they situated?

the ECU box is the plastic box behind the drivers side headlight. They'll have 3 slots in there, the engine ECU is in the middle one
