I have issues that my Tailgate/Boot on my V70 P2 (2002) wont stay up and open, I either end up balancing it on my head or looking like some weird hunch-back when getting stuff out of the boot. I've searched the site and also around the web for details on the issue and I'm confused...I need some help...

Is this an easy issue to resolve?

Does the V70 P2 use gas struts? and if it does are they located in the boot under the plastic trim somewhere?

Anybody got any links to the required parts?

I have found this link..
http://www.autogateway.co.uk/NewCategory--BootlidTailgateGasStrutSpring-112.23#bottom7

Are these the right thing for the Tailgate/Boot.

Finally is the word `Tailgate` too American?

Cheers
Ted

I think this is what you're looking for mate

Don't know what they're like to change on a P2, but it's not too difficult on an 850. Should be something on VOC forum for the P2s or else someone here will tell you.

Tailgate sounds fine to me, not too American, just don't call it the trunk lol

Cheers, I will get a couple of those ordered :)

I found this for the 850 (thanks to mraldonnelly)

"Remove speaker covers in rear pillars to allow a better grip on the trim.
Unclip trim from rear pillars , up and along roofline to rear door. You don't need to remove the trim completely, just let it hang down.
Struts should now be visible. They are easy enough to remove and are fairly self explanitory once you see 'em. No bolts to undo or anything. Start at the tailgate side - you may need to move the tailgate up and down a little to remove the strut.
Remove strut from fixing inside car and withdraw.
In the words of Mr Haynes - refitting is a reversal of removal."

Is this the same for the V70 P2, anything else I need to look out for ?

Oh and just found this which makes things nice and clear...(again not for P2 but I guess it will be very similar)

Many thanks JelT5 :)

The items were a perfect fit and easy to fit (even for me) all completed in under an hour including cleaning up all the oil that had leaked from one of the struts. I found it easy to lay on my back in the boot with my feet lifting the tailgate to get enough height for the struts to fit so I didnt have to loosed the tailgate at all...some funny looks from the neighbours though ;)

Instructions in the above link were pretty much spot on and I didnt need to remove all the trim just the 2 on either side where the coat hooks are and the rear one where the interior light is.
I completely removed the small spring `C` clip from the strut and then it comes away from the ball joint with very little pressure using a screwdriver, fitting the new one was the reverse process remembering to put the `C` clip in last.

Why I picked one of the coldest days of the year so far (-1 at 11:00am) to do this I have no idea, all done now though.

:)
