look a very good price but some of the cop-outs within the policies look a bit iffy, using a gmail account makes it look like either a one man band (tho they do have a technical department lol) or a company trying to hide or disappear & move on whenever they feel like it

how hard are they to fit with an engine thats already out?

should be very easy with the engine out, i've seen it done with the block still left in. Have to remove the head & sump to get the con-rods out which should be easier without the subframe to get in the way

they come out with the con-rods, i'm sure i've read standard pistons are fine for about 400bhp

Yes they look ok! but so dose the Mona lisa from a distance!

Personally I would just get a set of rods from Don@kalmar Union or Get a set from THS, Don would be more helpful and i think? don't quote me on this? he supplies some stronger bolts to go with them!

yes mate butr get the right 1 the are 2 different types and what turbo you going to use because the is no sense in going to big on the power stakes if you cannot put the power down on the floor ,if i was you go for a very powerful 350 bhp

If your going to strip the engine to that extent mate your gambling on the bores being 100% which im sure they wont be, at least you will need to get them honed, if i was you i would take the block and rods to a pro engine builder and get them to put it together for you. If your going to do it might as well get it done properly.

Heres the link for Don....http://kalmar-union.com/parts/volvo-850_s70_v70_c70-engine/

Spoken to him and seems a really nice bloke, can take a bit of time to get back to you but i belive Tim Williams is running 400bhp on them. Better ask on t5d5 for more info about how's running them.

i would get a gt2871 that will push 400 bhp but as i have said 350 will be enough .something else gt turbos are expensive to rebuild and make sure that it has a metal bearing casing because alot came with plasic 1s.

Look almost too good to put in the engine! Only thing is, they are 0.5mm oversized, so you will need a rebore

Any Garrett will coast you serious money full stop!
And not going down the wrought of what has been suggested to you in, getting it done properly, i.e. strengthened, built properly, not to say you can't do it! but your talking serious power with a Garrett so much so that there is a lot of things that have to be done for it have any longevity!!
I have been in 850's and V70's both with the GT28 & 30 both are mind bogglingly quick and command serious respect! and respect when being built!
I personally if I was you go for a KKK24 with mods to suit and custom map.
you will hit you 350 figure for a couple of grand less

Fair point, I think my engine rebuild has cost about £500 in parts, and £500 in machining, that doesn't include the pistons and rods I have in there, then I have the price of the new turbo, yes, its a Garrett ;)

The GT28/30 is around £980, then your need a wastegate housing

to start me off i will need an s60r manifold yes is this because of the 3" downpipe? i want really 380-400bhp, i want something a little different, a v70r turbo in a v70 r is not extreme enough, i dunno lets see what funds are available in the new year

p fandango
Friday 19th November 2010, 16:59
you want the S60R manifold purely because its better flowing, the downpipe bolts to the turbo (which bolts to the manifold)

what boost can a 18t go up to?

Martin-t5r
Friday 19th November 2010, 20:46
With very careful mapping a 19t should make 350. Don't forget you will want custom feeds with a Garrett

the piping for a garrett is easy to do and you can run a 19t safely 1.4 bar after they start to heat up like the 18ts do also.these turbo where designed to give a big bang at low boost were the garretts are designed to run high boost

T5frankie
Friday 19th November 2010, 20:55
so if say at 300bhp is at 1 bar what would 1.4 bar reach i like high boost lol
