Not a great track, basically an oval with a leg stuck on the end, costs were £15 entry to the PPC show and £20 for 15 minutes track time.

After comparing my setup to another compound charged car I'm going to make a few changes to my plumbing again...lol
Got this today, (it's an air bypass valve) It needs to go just before the S/C and bypass into the inlet manifold, but I need to make a plate to atatch a silicone hose onto it.
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120525_075903.jpg
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120525_075912.jpg
So take one of these:
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120525_075921.jpg
Take the fan off:
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120525_075932.jpg
Cut all the fins off, grind flat and make a hole
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120525_075942.jpg
All I need to do now is weld this pipe on, and that's it done.

So, the Supercharger is off and a big hole drilled in it so that the bypass valve can be welded on:

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120527_131547.jpg

Also took the opportunity to take the front mount off so that I can weld an extension pipe on:

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120527_131556.jpg

Also need to modify the Supercharger inlet so that I can fit the throttle body onto it:

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/20120527_131646.jpg

And this lot will replace the original throttle body:

That's it all done (again) with the boost pipes like this and the supercharger bypass the car sounds just like a standard T5 :( , but fuel economy will be about normal and the car should now be easy to map.

Great seeing the car in the flesh so to speak - was looking forward to it :)
I forgot to ask how do you rate those turbo-tuners? Tbh I thought about a hlm map but didn't want anything aggressive either (ended up getting a WothRline ecu off fleabay which is just nice).
Love the bonnet btw, interesting to see how the car progresses - shame about the weather at the York raceway, would have loved to see it running.

Cheers Rhys, TT USB, it's to early to tell, it has it's limitations but so far I've at least been able to make the car nice and drivable. there won't be much more now untill the new engine goes in at the end of the year.

One issue identified on the weekend was the boost pipe going onto the inlet manifold was collapsing under vacume, so replaced with a hard pipe and painted the pipes satin black

Yep, it will fit where it touches...lol, originally off a Mk3/4 Escort, I've just bought a 12 tone pipe bender so I should be able to make the front legs and a couple of pipes from the top of the hoop to the rear of the car, I have to make sure that I still have room to sleep in the car...lol

did you get your copy? good article.

i am wordering about the technicals of fitting a supercharger with a turbocharger at the same time.
presuming they are in line, i understand that the supercharger being belt driven will assist in turbo lag since it is belt driven, but does it not get to the point where the supercharger might hold the turbo back if it reaches its max output and the turbo might have some power left as i thought that in general turbos run at higher boost levels than superchargers?
or is this taken care of by selection of the right supercharger and turbo combination together so it does not happen.

just curious

Hi, Yes I got the mag :)

to answer your question, the supercharger is an air compressor (as opposed to the Turbo which is an air mover) so the SC will compress (compound) anything it has going into it, so if the turbo is big enough the SC will boost up what it gets out of the turbo, so 8psi out of the turbo will be further boosted by the SC upto 15psi. 20psi out of the turbo will be boosted to over 30psi out of the SC (as long as the turbo can produce the volume of air needed.

New GT28 hybrid fitted, so no more smoke :), the down side is that in my eagerness to go for a test drive, I forglot to close the bonnet pins (yes I know), so all I saw
was a fiberglass bonnet flying majestically over my head :(

I'm getting really annoyed with the car now, ever since I changed the engine in January I haven't been able to get more than 15psi boost, since then I've fitted a new turbo and still the same. Today I bypassed the charge cooler and still the same, the only other change is the TurboTuner usb ecu, I can't see how it could be that but running out of ideas now, any thoughts (and dont suggest the obvious like boost leaks)

On the old turbo I actually had the waste gate locked off, I haven't done that to this one, but I'm still getting the same result.

Try running on actuator pressure and see what happens as long as it is a good actuator

I have'nt tried a new maf, but would that affect the amount of boost? I did think about putting the standard maf back on. as it happens, when I put the new turbo on, I also re-fitted my dump valve and have found a huge boost leake there, I'm in the middle of making a leak tester at the moment.

Todays lesson is: dont assume that your previous lack of boost is caused by the same thing, old lack of boost was due to a knackered turbo, current lack of boost was caused by poor fitting dump valve.
My boost is now at a steady 23psi, Happy days, now lets see if i can bend some rods.

I'm sure you'll think of something....lol

I would like to make it to avon, but I don't think I'll be in the T5-R as it has exhaust manifold/turbo leak and I doubt that I'll fix it that quick, but we'll see. Might bring Jaynes V70R but I don't think that will be racing as there's a funny noise and clunking going on, mighy bring it along so you all can give your expert opinons on whats up with it.

I find it hard to imagine what these big power 850/x70 Volvo's are like to drive, Mine either torque steers everywhere or spins it's wheels when it comes on boost hard. the car now spins it's wheels at 4000RPM in top gear on anything but a bone dry track. Tyres lighting up at over 100MPH in the damp is a bit disconcerting.

I intend to fiberglass the underside of the vent and then pull the plastic vent out, leaving a fiberglass vent as a part of the bonnet.

I have no where near the grunt of your car, but to try and drive it hard on the welsh lanes around here is almost impossible, as the slightest drop of damp has it spinning, think I'll have to get some better tyres and the council should put some chippings in the tar patches, either way spinning up at speed is disconcerting......better get an awd then you could get all the power down....!!!! save alot of cutting, find a scrapper and bolt the bits in over the winter....sorted ....and it will be easier to work on with the engine still in the front. T-5K AWD ?????
