Some picces from the VOC meeting today - was good fun.

Important Note = all number plates should be obscured, sometimes Photobucket has a short delay on modifications you've made going 'live' so if you see your or another plate, it has been distorted and will be obscured shortly :)

Ah, you got me there! But if you say it's there, as we have nearly identical cars (well they were when they left the factory), then it still will be. :D

coming out from under the plastic spark plug cover just by the HT leads will be 2 metals pipes with vac hose connected, one goes to the vac tree & think the other went to the intake on BT. It was part of the recall to try & cure the throttle freezing (which was never a problem to us) before they dropped the RIP. Its a metal pipe thats routed around the spark plugs to transfer the heat from the cylinder head & warm the air in the pipes up

BT was badged as a T-5 but called "turbo" on the V5, so the next phase after yours but earlier than most (she had the Volvo RIP as well). Yours does look exactly as BT was when i bought her, only she was never that clean lol

I do think it has the pipes......never knew what they were though!

Mine was badged as a T-5 as well (I think all the UK Turbos were), I just wanted my car to be badged as what it actually is, so got a proper badge from the States. That silver 855 in the pics is also a Turbo, but badged as a T-5 too and will a much lower spec (which is weird as the Turbo was the highest spec 850 you could buy at the time).

ah yes so she's identicle to BT then. You seem to know alot about the names & badging, did Volvo sell any T-5R's as "850 plus 5's", did they change them after the brochure or State versions only because i've never seen one LINK (http://www.box.net/shared/uxtepfe0d8)

Not so much, I just seem to know a lot about things that aren't that important to anyone else! lol

I have never seen that press release before, but I have heard rumours of the Plus 5. The only thing I can think of, and this will probably be completely wrong, is that they were going to call the car the Plus 5 but then changed their minds before actual production to make it the T-5R.

The thing that seems a bit odd is that they state it was only going to be produced in a saloon version. Was the original BTCC car going to be a saloon, but after some testing they found the estate worked better, and so had to make a production version (and scrapping the Plus 5 name)?

I honestly don't know, and I am just rambling but it would be good to find out. I might just use my special VOC hat to get some info out of Volvo themselves!

tbh i probably robbed that press release from VOC lol. I've heard many different stories behind the BTCC project, one being both saloon & estate were tested & with not much performance difference they went with the estate for the PR, i've only ever seen Big Red as the original prototype never seen a saloon version. Or that when SAM went to pick up the shell for the prototype only estates were available. The BTCC car is based on the 2.0 GLT so no need for a special edition to use either the saloon or estate, inless you were going to cheat like Alfa lol

another difference between the plus 5 & the T-5R is the plus 5 says leather interior, while the T-5R is leather & alcantara

I'm in at Clelands on Wednesday to get standard wheel bolts to replace the locking ones which I don't think will last much longer (Dunc can vouch for this!), so I'll ask Mr Cleland if he knows what the story was with it.

Not what you know, but who you know!!!

Cheers
