Dashboard rattle S40 saloon (2008)

I have an infuriating intermittent rattle from somewhere behind the dashboard of my S40 saloon. I stripped out as much of the dashboard on the drivers and passengers side (it wasn't easy ! ) but couldn't find anything obvious. I can now only think that it is coming from somewhere in or behind the 'floating' console in the centre of the dashboard, or perhaps the CD player behind it. Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to remove the console, and how to do it? Are any special tools required?
My last S40 had similar dashboard rattles which is a pity really because, other than that, I can't fault the cars.

I think there's some bolt-heads on the back of the floating console, undoing those should allow you to remove it temporarily to have a look.
