any1 fitted a boost gauge?

want to see ones installed in the dash not stuck on ..or pillar pods the more oem look im after was thinking of installing one under my single din radio,in the pouch/pocket kit that fills under my alpine cd player,,seen ones on ebay that are similar to dash,,,green backlight orange needle any1 done simlar??

i made one using a universal DIN blanking plate & drilled the 52mm holes, i've lost my USB stick which had all my pictures on tho sorry :(

It's still missing then...that's a pain mate. Hope it turns up soon- lost one of my USB sticks (with a load of important stuff on) for about 3 weeks and it turned up today so don't give up hope yet!

no thanks basky but gives me an idea as to what im after.only going to do a boost and keep most of the pocket for use ,so box in one gauge if you understand

Once upon a time, the gentleman racer took a mechanic to ride with him to observe the battery of gauges on his Blower Bentley or similar. These days we don't. I really do think a boost gauge has to be in your line of sight when driving - or otherwise it is a bit pointless. If you want the OEM look, you could do the install I did (there are pictures on that thread now) you could have a boost gauge up whilst you calibrate your standard T5 one - and then remove it. It is a real shame on the 850 that there is no way of having a line-of-sight gauge without having it up on the dash or pillar. Now a talking boost gauge - that would be something...although maybe a bit less shi'ite than this:

Agreed. It is of absolutely no value being under your stereo. If you spend too much time glancing at it, then you will ultimately end up in a box.

Since this pic was taken I've coloured the needle to match the others and sorted out the lighting so it illuminates the same colour and looks stock.

I'll second that ^. Looks excellent.
I'm annoyed that they didn't have the boost gauge (simple as it was) on the s70's. Would be nice to know what its running at.

Sorry for the hijack but i feel the same cant belive my v70r has no boost gauge.

I had a look around an 855R (T5R?) not long after i got my s70r, thought to myself "where my bloody boost gauge!" lol

...the other idea I had toyed with (applicable to the 850's) was to take out the dash then using a decent boost gauge or pressure gauge and a pump to actually 'calibrate' the existing factory gauge and make up a printed acetate to stick above the needle.

That is REALLY classy. I like that A LOT! Was it tricky? WHat gauge did you use?

The gauge was an old TIM one that I had lying around, it was handy because the dial face although standard 52mm was also marked further in from the dials outer face .

There isn't enough space to have the whole gauge face showing so using the inner part (getting rid of the coloured bits) matched up a hole saw and carefully cut the dashboard (after removing the existing gauge) to match the TIM one. The gauge is then stripped of it's housing, the face trimmed in a few places, needle trimmed up and glued in with a glue gun. The gauge will light like this but it was too bright.

So I painted in the edges of the cut hole to block out the dash's normal lighting then lit the gauge from behind with a small bulb, this way the gauge lights green and matches the rest of the instruments, the only thing I haven't managed to do is get the needle to illuminate !
If I was doing it again I would use the TIM gauge rated to 1.5 bar as now I'm RICA'd I'm loosing the needle off the gauge !
I'll get a current piccy posted up of it lit at night when I take one this evening .

The position of the gauge works well and is not too obtrusive, and an easy location to route pipes and wires to. I'll have another go at making the cover look a bit neater at some point but its fine for a first attempt and for now.

Is 17psi normal for a rica304 with no other mods?
