Tidy looking 480!

Dont see many in that condition and the Turbo's have always been a nice car. As p fandango said in an earlier thread a highly underated car, fast in its day too.

Are you going to use the car on the road when you reach 17?

i wanna mate but i looked up a how much it would be to insure it if i wer 17 at the moment on go compare.com and the best quote was £5000! i may be able to if im incredibly lucky or have sum kind company insurance at my gramps electricians, but unfortunatly i'll probs have to keep it until im like 20, when the insurance starts to drop.

Thats a real shame, hope you can find some way of insuring it for a reasonable price. ;)

I had a similar issue when I was of similar age.....and even though I'm getting on a bit now (28) I found my insurance quotes dropped to a reasonable <£2000 by using specialist insurers and accepting potentially crippling excess. (Think one of the first insurance companies I actually used was called HighPerformanceInsurance). When you become a man by passing your driving test (well its as good a point to become a man as any....I personally am still a boy...honest) try caling Adrian Flux (As I said I'm getting on a bit now but was impressed with my last quote with mods declared......because declaring them is one less thing to worry about).

Failing all....maybe change your name to Tracy?

You may be able to get it on a classic policy if you're lucky. Failing that, try upping the excess, trying both comprehensive and 3rd party covers (sometimes comprehensive is actually cheaper), and adding an older female driver to the policy sometimes works.

Love the 480. Not selling mine in a hurry! What boost are you running?

no idea mate, the needle goes off the guage! haha im going to buy an aftermarket one sometime, but first i need to find a good place to install it, does anyone have any good ideas for places of where to put 1?

The end of the gauge is 14psi, which is when fuel cut *should* happen ... are you using anything to stop fuel cut, an FCD or Richmod/Rica ECU for instance?

Asking because when I adjusted mine to the end of the gauge it kangarooed like there was no tomorrow and, of course, more oomph is always nice.

In terms of boost gauge location, the pillar is out - it's too narrow for most pillar mount kits, so you're looking at a gauge pod somewhere on the dash. I guess where exactly is up to you, but you can probably take a feed from the in-built boost gauge to minimise plumbing.

You could linstall a guage in one of the air vents. Many of the guys with 850's have done this and it looks good. It would also allow you to use the oem dials vac line or simply insert a t-piece and branch off so both could be used.

hhmmm yeh an air vent would be good but i prefer the idea of a pod (dash mouted one). im not running anything to stop the fuel cut out and it runs sweet at the moment so i'd better not + boost it anymore! haha. and it sounds like a good idea to tee piece the oem line so i cud use both, thanks for the advice ill have a look for guage locations next time i c the car.

I have to say that I have real soft spot for 480. I remember as a kid going to the motorshow '86 at the NEC and seeing them for the first time and being rather confused by them, but they are a real 'grower'. Nice car though, shame about the insurance though. But, for me at least, there are some advantages to being more mature in years......

My cousin ran a 440 turbo with an MBC, full exhaust and induction kit - it went really well!

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/retroteen08/Photo0220.jpg

the paint technically shud match perfectly but obviously because its an old car the original paint is a little faded, ah well £££££ happens im sure it will even out eventually! oh yeh and i no the lights are loose in their positions and ive only got one light on in my cluster lol. the light clusters havnt worked since i bort the car and it was a struggle to get just that 1 to work! but im making progress!)

thanks for looking,
tom
