LO all, I have seen a few V70 AWD for sale and am seriously cnsidering one as last year we were snowe in our village. The V70 AWD would replace our T5 estate and I assume give approximately the same MPG or maybe a tad more.

Anyway Mrs Mas visited a Volvo specialist today for some wheel nuts and he mentiond that around year 2000 they went from a permanent 4WD system that he says avoid at all costs ( chews tyres for starters ? ) and over to the intelligent system used in the V70 R type that goes from 100 percent to one axle right through the range.

Question us : can anyone tell me an easy way to tell the difference by looking at the car maybe a winter mode switch comes or goes from by the gear selector as in the T4 or something else.

I really need to know as I am definately after one 'if' the right one comes my way
( before this government takes my last few pennies from me followed by the breath from my lungs and the blood from my veins).

Having read the year 2000 brochure online , surely this is as simple as new shap = new 4wheel drive. Old shape= old 4 wheel drive, but I can't see why the Volvo man didnt mention that !

Cheers

Mas

The old mechanical system isn't that bad, i'd trust it more than an electrical system (which I guess would cost more to replace)

Anyway I think you're right, the haldex system was fitted to P2 cars
