ECU Codes - Best way to read them?

Greetings all....back again...at last

I finally replaced my 850 T5 with a V70 T5...however the engine management light has come on again. First time I just disconected the battery to reset the ecu and all was fine for the next 1k miles. Both times it came on as I stopped to turn.

What is the best way to get to these codes? My 850 had a box that would blink the codes out and I knew how to decipher these...is there a way I can remove this box and connect it into the V70? Or is it some hardware gizmo I need or some software for my laptop? If so how cheap is it?

Does your V70 have a fly-by-wire throttle. These ME7 cars - the only way to read the ecu is through VADIS.

You need an OBD2 code reader, or book it in a good auto electrician who should have one.

i recently bouht a obd2 reader of a guy on e bay theres hundreds of them if you look on the states site, twenty five quid including shipping ,works a treat om my 98 t5

I got an OBD2 reader off Ebay which is basically a cable that connects the car to your laptop. It comes with some software on a CD (which is freely downloadable from the 'net).
It works very well.
If you put a copy of Vadis on your laptop as well, you can get the OBD2 Pnnnn codes translated to Volvo's ECM codes and read Volvo's full diagnostic sheet for the problem you're experiencing.

Thanks for the info chaps....I finally bit the bullet and went to a dealer who kindly did the honours and even showed me what was causeing the problem....for free....result. Thankyou to Kings Volvo Winchester.

Shame I could not £££££££ize the 850 reader and I did look on ebay but all the ones I found under £100 said not suitable for Volvo etc....chizz..

Oh well now for another post on how to replace this wretched little pipe connector on the edge of the inlet manifold...apparently it deals with the idle mixture....the error was "long term fuel trim"
