strange noise

Today the R started to make a funny noise?on tick over a pinging noise from the campulley end of the engine but lower down my the crank pulley? Its got oil in but it is possibly the wrong oil and could do with some thicker stuff in? Has anybody else had this?

I would carefully check the belt before doing anything else!

Is the pinging noise same as rpm or less? If less then I would DEFINITELY check the belt before doing anything else ;-)

If not belt related could be idler pulleys or water pump.

It matches the rpm,if you lift the revs it will go then sometimes come back and othertimes will stay,its a metalic noise almost like a noisy hydraulic lifter type of noise?
