View Full Version : Turbo outside the hood?

I was just wondering, how practical is it to have the turbo on the outside of the hood? I was thinking something along the lines of this:

Do I really need to explain why?

I was thinking that having it outside would keep the temperature right down, help reduce the ambient temperature of the air intake, and potentially help with performance?

Cheers

if you know someone who can make manifolds then it'd quite easy, at the minute the turbo hangs down so its basically turning it upside-down. You'd have to get the exnaust, intake pipe & oil/water feeds custom made as well as the manifold

i like this idea, so tempted to try it with 2 x 19t's on BT

Spot the intake filters on the Mad-Max-Mobile. I give it fifteen seconds on the road in the winter behind a gritter. :D

i'm trying to figure out the actual system there running on that. It looks like twin turbo (one each side) with draw thru twin carbs, but how/why they got 4 exhausts?

yeh i bet it makes a good old sound with no noise suppression after the turbo & just a tailpipe bolted straight to the turbo

i could always do a sequential twin turbo, keep the current 19t on the original manifold then have a Garrett behind the rear bumper on the end of the a single exhaust. I'd of thought that would give the current spool up that the 19t has but bit more once the larger one comes onto boost

Not sure it would pass the MOT with Turbos hanging out the bonnet? (Well rusty arches fail and this cant be that far removed from that). Plus the ped safety lol.

Read about a guy who stuck a turbo at the end of the exhaust on a Pug 205. Don't need to find space for it in the engine bay and the air rushing underneath the car cools the turbo and intake charge. Obviously you have really long air and oil pipes though.

With use of 1241 pipework. 1 turbo splits then splits again to 4 pipes n then join outside to 1 pipe. Effort but bugger me does it look cool!!

Yea need to have a filter but still be sweeeeeeeeettttt.

Oh, and I know I'm certainly mental, how I got my name of Crazy

I don't want to be a square but without a filter on that turbo wouldn't alot of **** get sucked in to the engine?
