Engine cleaning.

Does anybody have any tips on how to keep my engine looking clean? I don't want to go over board with it, my engine is pretty clean and was wondering if there was anything i could do to help keep it that way. Was gonna just use wd-40 and some sort of sponge/brillo pad type thingy.

Autosol is the old standard for polishing finished aluminum (cambox cover). Obviously don't jetwash. Gunk or similar is good for removing engine cack.

When the Thames Barrier was opened by the Queen in 1982, the builders ordered 200 bottles of Brasso metal polish to tosh up the steel cowlings - not a lot of people know that...

Everyone that has seen any engine I have cleaned doesn't believe the results that are achievable with two simple products. It will take you about 15 minutes of simple labor!

This is all I use unless I want to give the metal a polish as well

AND YES YOU CAN JET WASH A ENGINE BAY. I say that in capitals because no one seems to listen to that lol

Well just buy a small bottle of the protective spray then?

I'll be getting some degreaser on the dirtier parts at the back of the engine and some protector to help keep it clean.

I use carlack68 degreaser which I find excellent - just with a m/f mitt & some cold water. Once rinsed I use a drying towel and finally the aerospace 303 as a dressing.

WD40 is excellent at cleaning the likes of lightly soiled engines, I cleaned an absolutely caked up block the other day with it, expensive way to clean it though, the only thing though is it will absoluty wreak of wd40 especially as the engine will be warming up so if you dont mind the smell Id say go for it other wise I personally use Autoglym engine and machine cleaner, this stuff is brilliant and water soluble too, then afterward I give it a spray with Autoglym Vynal and rubber treatment to keep it shiny

spray interior/carpet cleaner works really well!

Take the whole lot out and stick in in the dishwasher.....but you knew I was going to say that !

Do you have to have the engine running to jetwash it safely? Mine need a really good clean but don't know where to start its that grubby!!!

Na do it when its cold. Theres nothing really exposed in your engine that needs covered unless you have a cone filter or something. Make sure you aim the jet wash directly down on top of the engine. Just turn the engine on after to let it dry. Give me a pm if you need more info.

Don't spend too much time polishing your manifold - you will go blind and grow hair on the palms of your hand.

As said use a good de greaser then on manifold and such I always use hammer right smooth silver . For the plastic bits I use armour all gloss dashboard wipes see
