Ok Folks

I bought a set of parking sensors today and the first few dry hours we have over the next few days, I'll be fitting them to my new S80.

However, I read last night in the Volvo book that the S80's radio aerial is in the rear bumper and now I'm a little hesitant to drill 4 large holes in the bumper in case I destroy a wire.

Has anyone tried fitting reversing lights to a S80 by themselves or does anyone have a photo of a S80 with it's rear bumper missing so as to give me a rough idea where to try and place the 4 sensors without doing any damage?

Check the Volvo Accessories Website as you can often find the fitting destructions. . .

Alternatively (if you are feeling brave) remove the rear bumper, IIRC the factory sensor positions are marked on the inside of the bumper cover. Please note that does NOT mean that your sensors are going to be angled correctly unless it is a Volvo branded kit.

I also have the Volvo cutting tool for making the holes in the bumper. Any use?

Hey V

I've got the correctly sized cutter for the sensor kit I've bought. I just need to make sure I put the holes in the correct place and don't take out any important stuff on the inside of the bumper whilst I'm cutting.

Gulp - wish me luck!

Ok, after a good few hours searching for photos and advice over the net, it seems that not many folks have actually fitted these to the S80 by themselves. Almost everyone I've read about has either had them fitted to their car as an optional extra when the car was new from Volvo or has had them fitted by a garage/specialist.

Having searched about under my car and trying to see under the bumper (which is near impossible) and doing a lot of head scratching, I've decided that completely removing the bumper is just a bit too much of a hassle.

Therefore, I've decided to take a statistical chance and place the sensors a few inches slightly lower than Volvo recommend their sensors are positioned on the car.

I've already marked and pierced four 3mm holes along the bumper to mark where each of the sensors will now sit. So there's no turning back now :D

I'll drill the full size 20mm holes and fit the whole system over the next few days (Weather's terrible here today) and post up a "How to" when I get a chance to take some photos.

Pheew - that's them fitted and working perfectly. They look bang on and there's no mess or wrong angles.

Very pleased with the result and I'll stick some photos up tomorrow as soon as the daylight comes back :D
