On the R I want to fit a Kenwood head unit (which I have) but having removed my Volvo unit I discover that it was obviously specified from new with a seperate amp for which there is an ISO type connector. So whilst my Volvo to standard convertor connector connects else, how the dickens do I connect up my shiny head unit to the amp without doing spaghetti surgery? Is there a way to run my Kenwood DPX502U through the Volvo amp with some sort of connector? Or given that the Kenwood has a 50w per channel output just bypass the amp? All ideas, all help, advice etc gratefully received.

Phil :(

I have done a search on the forum and someone ages ago suggested one of these: http://www.incartunes.co.uk/pc9-414-volvo-din-to-male-phono-harness-adaptor-1475-p.asp

or

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-Din-Male-Phono-Amplifier-Adaptor-Lead-PC9-414-/200480265898?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET&hash=item2ead8e16aa

Can't get a squeak out of the speakers with either a spare JVC or the Kenwood unit. ALthough works fine with the SC unit.

B@astard of a problem. Maybe have to get the thing above - although now I have seen it I bet somewhere does a cheaper one.

No, they really are pricey. So frustrated just ordered one anyway :(

You know where I was earlier today mate in Crayford? Take the 850 round to them and say you're a mate of mine, they specialize in audio installs so will be the guys to ask.

i'm using the top link on Bonny, are you connecting the spare wire on the adaptor to the remote trip/electric aerial?

Ok just going to ask some questions not meant to offend lol, im assuming you have got one of those connectors with one big black box and 2 smaller rectangular shapes coming from it, there is a seperate loom tucked deep inside probably with foam around it(mine was) you unplug this 1 connector and plug it into one of the smaller connectors.

To summerise...big connector into back of amp, one of the smaller ones into obvious connection then the other into the one buried in the back(it pulls out).

Hope that make sense lol

So fitted the Amp adapter and guess what? Still nothing. Plug original unit back in and its fine, new units don't(I have two so unlikely both faulty). Feckin' Norah!

I have this prob as well Phil; bought a JVC KW-XE41 double din unit from Halfords when I was back in UK last month. Got the adaptor plugs for the rectangular connectors but didn't realise I needed the din to rca connector too. Looked at the available adaptors but the all seem to be din to 4x RCA...my new JVC HU has only 2 RCA outs...arg!

Anyone got any ideas as to how I can sort it as I get nothing from the speakers when it's connected. The standard ovlov unit works fine, obviously, I just wanted the convenience of mp3/ usb.

you can get Y-splitters that you plug into the RCA that will split it into 4 mate

Thanks Duane - I do have another one (also a JVC) with Jerry's issue so have ordered one.

Re your aerial wire query, as the 855 does not have an external aerial I have not connected it. But beginning to wonder if it has some magical radio-activating properties! Cos I am running out of ideas :(

the DIN to RCA adaptor you've got, has it got a seperate wire with it (normally blue)? If it has you'll need to connect a positive supply to it when you want to turn the amplifier on. If you can't find the electrical aerial wire then wiring it to the ignition will do for a test/temporary measure
