Nice Audi :D ... what's the ABT badge for, you got it remapped already!?

I have to say as wonderful as your car I hope you're aware of the image you are taking on driving an Audi with DRLs :D

does your number plate spell: EJ10 TTT ??

(i hope you realize this is a friendly ribbing - I'm just jealous cause my car isn't as new or shiny!)

OMG J your car is SICK !!!

Thanks for the nice comments, after my 3 year stint in the B7 A4 saloon I just couldn't go to anything other than another Audi.

SAM bless her went to the crusher after I stripped her of all her worldly goods. She will be missed.

I had to move on, tuning Volvo's for serious power was expensive and fruitless, i had 2 B5 RS4's then bit the bullet in September and bought that. Wife still had an S60 D5 that we will be looking at upgrading in the new year.

I take it family is well etc?
Is yours tuned or stock? Murphy will be along in a bit i'm sure lol.

I came to the same conclusion on the Ovlov front, though the wife still has the P2 V70 is the super 60 18T and custom map sitting on the Peg's but to be honest it makes me cry every time we used it on a family day out with a lowfull 300 ish miles to the tank

The family is all good thank now running 3 up if you didn't get the update on the last nipper.

As for tuning the Audi what do you reckon ?

Didnt get the update mate, congrats :)

You have to tune yours, mine is pointless really for the gains, however i may see just how good the available maps are.

Thanks for the comment.

The 18T was modified by Essex Turbo's with a 60deg trim on the compressor blades, polished and ported housing and fitting with a uprated WG actuator (see sig).

Funny isn't it at least 3 of us now driving Audi's but also keeping a Volvo in the family.

I've been looking at remapping the Audi as well lol.

Have you driven a modern one? The build quality is first class, very comfortable, good on fuel, they hold there value and pretty quick if you pick the right engine.

With an audi, you really are just paying for the badge though, aren't you. Why get an a3, when you can get a golf cheaper. Why get an a4, when you could have a passat cheaper, etc. They share so much, engines, gearboxs, suspension, etc, even the interiors are similar. Don't get me wrong though, they are very, very good cars, built well with good engines and all the rest, but i think that there is just a bit to much sharing in the VAG, and that the audis should be a bit more individual.

having been in the one my old man got as a courtesy car i wouldn't have one, tbh can't remember much about it year or spec wise but some of the things on it weren't a patch on a Volvo. The dash was a terrible blue & red which meant you couldn't read anything, the switch symbols were too small, air con controls looked like its been made from Tandys returns, steering wheel controls were confusing. Must say the gearbox (6speed auto with manual select) was very nice, but not enough to buy one

They are similar, but i tried out a golf gti and it didn't feel as special inside as the a3 or as comfortable. I agree you pay a bit more because of the badge but the A3 holds it value better than the Golf.
I had a large selection of Golf Gti's in my budget but only 3 A3's in the spec i wanted so not as common on the road. Most A3's you see on the roads are the diesels in just the sport spec.

Thank chaps for the kind comments and even the no so nice lol.

For those that don't know the fascination / appeal of the Audi's I just guess your not ready for the upgrade.

I've been a devoted Volvo owner and still am to an extent. My 850 was exactly what I wanted at the time, a child hood dream (90's Touring Car Fan) and as a cheap strong and not a ford easy to tune and all with the sleeper factor it was great.

I had high hopes for the P2 V70 I got for the wife but with raising fuel costs it pains me to drive it knowing the best mpg I'm getting it sub 30. Yes it goes well but after I got my old B7 A4 and found what is capable of the new generation TDI's I will never go back to a petrol.

My Old A4 would comfortably give an ST a run for its money and still return 600+ miles to a tank sum (£70) once I'd had it remapped.

My new A4 being the latest common rail technology high output 2.0 TDI is staggering. Even during its running in period it will give me 68mpg and had no problem seeing off the GTi / VRX club and yes I know Volvo do a pretty good diesel however they haven't cured the agriculture sound track.

I never expected to get the "OMG What A Cracking Motor" view here being massed with Ovlov owners so the comments are expected.

I don't' want this thread to end all flaming but hey yes you pay more but you pay for what you get in life.

Thanks all.

Steve.

Main reason i drive a volvo, is that i like to be a bit different, people don't expect a fast volvo. Audis are very good cars, but i assume you mean a corsa vxr because i'm pretty sure an astra vxr is faster than your a4 2.0tdi or any 2.0tdi (standard), audi or otherwise. I would have liked to have got a lightly modded b5 s4, but the insurance is far more expensive for me.

See off a GTI or VXR?

Maybe if the driver and passenger in the other Motor were the losers off the biggest loser!

not that a 170bhp TDI is a slow car with such a fat midrange, but stock astra VXR's routinely run the 1/4 in the low 14's at crail (considered to be a slow drag strip) and i saw a Vectra VXR (stock) run just under 15 two up at a terminal speed of almost 100mph for both. The Corsa is roughly as quick as a stock Focus ST220 on most benchmarks.

you got a 1/4 mile time + terminal speed for your 2.0 TDI? :) I'd say if you can't open up at least 2 or 3 car lengths over a 1/4 you're not 'seeing someone off' you're just 'slightly quicker' ... but then if your car can run a sub 14 I'll fully appreciate the wonder of the new common rail TDI.

No one would argue an Audi is a bad car, they're good - just like VW etc... however, there is a perception in the motoring community that there's some bad apples spoiling your barrel - and I'm sure we'll all take the opportunity to gently rib you about it! :D

anyone defecting from Volvo.... can we call them a 'brand slag' ? That should be a VPC rule!! :)

Cow boy walks into a car show room and says howdy

TDi in the real world are often quicker road cars than petrol eqivilants due to the massive swell of torque, Take Murphys old Fabia VRS which was 165 BHP IRC 0-60 in 6.5 secs 1/4 mile in 15 secs That is stock T5 territory but what it doesnt tell you is how much you would have to nail a rica T5 just to keep up with it, beating it I doubt would be an option

I never had any trouble with tdis when i had my t4, even seeing off an apparently mapped 170 tdi golf, with relative ease. They go well for a few seconds and then start to drop back. In a single gear they are fantastic, but when they have to start going through the gears they lose the advantage. At this point in time charged petrols are still faster, but for how much longer, who can say?

BTW, t5_monkey, bracers 2.0tdi has been modded.

Out of all of the above the most surprising thing is that someone has actually witnessed a VRX going up the 1/4 mile managing to control all the torque steer and not hit the wall and end up facing the other way TBH. ;)
