Hi everyone,

My S60 D5 is due its fisrt service(under my ownership).
Its the 72k service.
So question is how much am i looking for the service?
And what does it entail, just oil, filter etc.. or does the plugs, fluids etc.. need doing also?
Thanks for your advice.

Mark.

From memory ~ possibly a little flakey.

72k service.

Oil/air/fuel/pollen filters.
Spark plugs.

Timing belt is not due until 100k but if it's over 5 years old nad there's only you picking up the tab if it goes bang! I'd be getting a quote for that.

Coolant change is due every 2 years - if in doubt change it. Volvo coolant is green - provided that it is flushed and changed it can be substituted by blue or red. DON'T MIX!

Everything else is inspect and report.

Check you aircon and re-gas if required, it will save you money in the long run.

Mine broke a glow plug at 100k and BLEW the remains out of the head at 110!
Luckily no damage but it won't drive anywhere with only 4 functioning cylinders. Makes more smoke than Thomas the Tank engine! :)

Hi,

on the 72000 miles service, all you need to change/drain is oil/air/fuel/pollen filters, oil, check coolant strength, check brake fluid for any contamination etc, handbrake adjust, and general check over the vehicle such as coolant pipes, pas pipes etc

we charge £155 for this service using genuine volvo parts and a full check and report on the car.

or if you want to diy it, contact simon at frf swansea, he offers good deals on genuine parts on mailorder.

D'oh!

PMSL.

J, rather than going for a ride on Sunday morning should we spend some time looking under your bonnet and checking which engine you've got :smileypul

Well have the car booked in for service and MOT with a Volvo specialist in Shifnal. £200 all in plus i can have a courtesy car. Apparently Paul was a mechanic At William A Lewis shrewsbury for 18years and he follows the Volvo service schedule to the book, So we will see, will let you know how i get on.

Oh and by the way my local Volvo dealership( William A Lewis) wanted £461 for the service and £55 for the MOT, plus VAT. What made me laugh was the service desk were pleased to tell me this included a 10% discount as the car was over 5 years old!!!
