catch can question

Hi all,

I am going to be fitting a catch can to my 2001 s60 t5 for my breather system and im pretty sure how to fit in in conjunction with the pcv system but im wondering if i can get rid of the flame trap (or what ever the box under the inlet is called) all together and just have the catch can?

any ideas experience or advice welcome
