Yes, i am being a little lazy not taking the wheel off and measuring them myself, but does anyone know what size front discs on my S60 D5 2003??

285.5, 288 or 305

Im going to order some from ECP today hopefully, Pagid discs and pads.

Cheers

They could also be 320mm. You need to get the tape measure out.

Yeah, i did see that thread Jase, but it wasnt anything concrete so to speak. I "think" mine has deffo got 305's as it came with 17" wheels as standard, and 305's needed to be fitted as a result. I think the 280's where for 15 and 16" wheel models.

I'll go for 305's, as I havent got my car with me today, and i need to order them today so that they arrive for the weekend :D

Thanks anyway guys

"Much Love"

I think the 17" is a misnomer

Mines came with 17" Tethys as it 's a SE, but the disk are 286mm

You would see a size difference front to back if you had 305mm

it is more likely you havent 305's

Dear James Ross,

As usual you are testiculating (talking bullocks).

Presumably 320s were a Volvo factory option on the D5, as on all Phase 2 cars? Though rarely taken up by buyers I would guess.

I might well be wrong (as might Wombat) but either way, no need for the aggro please.

Justin,

No need for what??
I was just pointing out that Mr. James Ross has got things wrong again.

My 54 plate V70 D5 SE came with 286mm discs all round. Confirmed by Rufe.

Had new discs and pads all round at the back end of last year, including upgrade to 305's on the front. All genuine Volvo parts.

Talk to Rufe and get the info confirmed ;).

If you want to upgrade the fronts from 286 to 305mm discs you will also need the bigger caliper carriers. I think you may also need longer brake lines although I may wrong on that bit. I took the opportunity to change all my brake lines to Goodridge braided versions and new fluid at the same time. Definite improvement in performance from what was on the car.

Anyhooooo, back to the thread ;) Ive measured the discs, and they are indeed 286 mm (from what i can tell through the wheel)

Now, I can get Pagid discs and pads delivered for £99.00 from ECP, or Rufe can supply genuines for £150.00 delivered.

I'd of thought Pagid would of been a decent make to go for, and save me £50 to spend on the rears (eventually)

Thirty years in the parts game tells me that provided they are fitted correctly you should save the extra 50 quid. I used to work for them but have moved on to pastures new. Last year I bought Textar pads and cheap replacement discs (Indian). They're still doing sterling work, no problems.

The rears were changed 2 years ago, QH discs and Apec pads. It's not what you fit, it's how you fit it . . .

Sorry for the thread revival, but I thought it pointless to start a new one as this one is already relevant, soooo....

Today I decided to fit my shiny new discs and pads to the D5.

I've been waiting for the dry weather to fit the larger 305mm discs and pads I had ordered from Rufe at FRF, already got the carriers off a T5 that Qady was breaking.

Old 286mm discs that weren't too bad tbh, the pads had about 1000 miles left in them though.

New and old comparison

Not sure whether non-genuine discs have the extra venting in the centre of the disc....? The new discs also came with new caliper bolts with loctite.

And finally, shiny and new.....

I had read on a few thread questions whether you need longer brake pipes & in this D5's case they're not needed, although I'll be fitting some Goodridges at some point in the future no doubt.

Cheers

Steve

Wait till they bed-in mate ;)
From the lipping on your old disks, I'd say they were shot.
Afaik, all the OE disks have the venting and if you look really closely, you may well find Brembo stamped on them.

For comparison, my Brembo Disks were £86 from GSF.
How much for the frf ones then ? (probably shouldn't ask cos I bet they're cheaper :()

2 x 305mm Discs £78.96 inc VAT
Pads £37.80 inc VAT
