Howdy peeps, its time to mot the old girl again.I ordered a timing belt kit for my 95 t5,and when it arrived it was for the Hydraulic tensioner.I have a problem that my engine must have come out of a v70 as its got the manual tensioner on it.So i started it up with just using the new idler, and wow the tensioner is ticking and tapping big time!
What i am wandering is can i convert my engine to the older tensioner setup?and use the new belt that came with it to,or is that a different amount of teeth?(850 belt on a v70 engine) thanks Paul..

Not too sure exactly what has happened to your motor. My 850 has a s70 block fitted and that has a hydraulic tensioner for the cambelt that acts against tensioner wheel as did the old lump that I had in it.

I assume this is the bit you are missing.

So today i put the hyd tensioner on my car(had one lying in garage). The old timing belt of my car(v70 engine) was shorter by 6 teeth iirc,no probs on with the longer 850 belt. All together and timed correctly and it is still ticking away, not a constant steady tick.It can come and go away briefly, its defo not the tappets as its not rev related as such the noise if you ken.Tried it with serpentine disconnected,no different.

Am fearing its a small end or conrod, the noise started when i got the car back of a workmate,he was using it when i was doing a job on his car.I reckon he gave it foot to the floor in to high a gear, the guy is in his 50s so i doubt he knew any better.Forgot to warn him,so am left with a car i just spent near 300 pounds on parts and what sounds like a duffed engine, the joys! Paul.
