Well the Throttle body clean lasted a while, but it just put off the inevitable i think.............bit pee'd off to tell you - 3 issues on the car at the moment, and as much as i love it - this time it bothering me.

Going to get the simple stuff sorted, then decide whether i will sort that out or not.

I have to apparantly drive the car down to Warrington to get it done?? and god knows how much that it - i know new throttle and software is not cheap.

Ho Hum!

Sorry to hear you have issues. Considered ringing Salvo for a 2nd had replacement ETS? I thought these days the price for new ones was right down?

Thankfully mine was replaced under warranty when I bought the car,

Cheers mate, spoke to the guy before i had it cleaned - but can not for the life of me remember the price?! I will be phoning him anyway to get a costing as i think my scimping has just delayed the problem.

He did say it has come down a great deal - come to think of it i may have posted on here before i had it cleaned - derrrrrrrrrr - let me check.

It just always seems to play up when there are people around - i remember before i had it cleaned it used to do it after getting fuel, hence sitting there trying to start it in the garage with people waiting on me - BAD!

I got an ETM from Doves in Blackburn for under £150. I fitted it myself, and I think the software update (in Blackburn) was somewhere in the region of £75.

Cheers mate,

Just spoke to Volvo in Preston, and apparantly they do it. Altogether with SW update it weighs in at £380.29 + VAT (£446.84) :( great!

I would do it myself mate, if i could - and for that price would save myself quite a bit - i just dont have the time to - so they have me round the knackers really.

Going to do my bearings and sensor first, then decide what to do - i dont like having a car i cant rely on :(

Just a quick question - before i had it cleaned i used to get lumpy tickover and bad starting etc, now its just bad starting. Should it not also be lumpy tickover again? becasue it ticks over perfectly, no hunting at all.

Also it starts, shoots to 1500 is, then stalls. Could this be just one of the symptoms come back, or before i go down the road of spending all that dosh, be something else?

Only code i find on my reader is 0573 (if i remember rightly) which when i looked up was brake position sensor. I guess my reader just doesnt do as much as i thought

Also, just having a read around, as the ETS light hasnt come back on for a bit - some people say a bad fuel relay can cause this and also not throw any codes up? is this worth a try first? where is it located??

Cheers

Car drives like a dream, no problem there - its just on startup, it stalls a second later - just done it to me in car park, left it a min, and it started and was ok.

mine did that before i did my head refurb, maybe not the same on yours but those symptoms were on every start hot or cold i remember?

by the way what does this ETS look like and would it show up on the right of the dash? coz i've heard this warning light mentioned but i dont know if my car has it, 01 v70 t5 ex plod???

Your problem sound more like the antena ring for the imobiliser than a etm

Cheers guys - yes the ETS light is on the left on mine, orange light saying ETS, and only flicks on intermittently like the starting issue, but drives like a dream

The Antenna ring was replaced several months ago when i had this problem last, along with my throttle bosy clean.

Had a word with a mechanic/auto electrician mate and he says symptoms are like immobilsor issues to him also Gaz, not throttle - so am arranging to meet him when he is free to cast his eye over it and see what he sees, maybe something is lose?

Its not done it for a few days now - typical!

Also going to check/change fuel relay, as i am replacing a few parts anyway.

Cheers guys

Eek, my ETS light went on this morning for the first time. Idle kept burbling round about 500rpm, wouldn't shift with the pedal. Switched it off, swore for a bit, then switched it on again (you can tell I work in I.T. :comp:) and it was fine, no light and usual rev hunting till warm.

I could probably clean the throttle body myself (used to do that for my old pug 406), but will need to hunt down a manual to find out where it is.

Good luck Happy, hope it goes well.

Hi mate, not done it since now. Got a mechanic/auto elecky mate out and he took all wiring apart and checked it all. He said it could have been a lose wire on the antenna ring (Which was new), so to just keep an eye on it.

So far so good........

Antenna rings are really cheap mate, and its normally the first thing a specialist will recommend changing - after that they say it gets more expensive, so if i were you i'd give that a go if its showing same symptoms.

Good luck mate

I just came back from holiday on saturday, tried to start the motor after 2 weeks, ETS and no starting. Had to reverse-jump start the beast in the end just to get it going.

Really not happy (still have to fix the leak although I've had a chance to get under the car and see what I have to do - not as hard as I thought, which is nice!)

Might have to swap it for a V70 (could use the extra space) and veer from the T5 route. They just seem like too much trouble from what I read here.

Good luck guys, hope your cars get fixed soon.

Sorry to hear that mate - good luck, and good to hear its still going to be another Volvo.

With my ETS, it would still start at first, then stall immediately - then only after that it would just turnover

Indeed, I've been really impressed with the way it drives and how comfortable it is (I've had a couple of Saabs previously, so I assume it's a *swedish* thing), so I'd like to go with another Volvo, but something that requires less maintenance (or more precisiely, something that is unlikely to have been thrashed).

I'm slightly worried though that I won't be able to get round to fixing it, as the engine is too hot to work with, even hours after switch the thing off. Any way round that?

I have the same problem, though i had my etm changed few years ago.

I turn the engine on now and again and car turns back off, like half seconds, second later.

Had codes read a year back when had air leak from inlet manifold.

Appeared like volvo did not change it, anyhow, one code came up as the immobaliser.

Other was boost control sensor, though anyhow it only happens now and again.

Might be wrong just sounds so simliar

When my ets light was on, drove terrible,

Also, when they changed my etm they deleted my map and the car now only revs to 4k unless moving
