I fitted a catch tank a few weeks ago, plumbed in between the pcv and the inlet just before the turbo (where the pcv pipe normally goes). The tank has a level tube on the outside and when I was dumping some power steering stop leak in at the weekend I thought I would check it. I couldn't see anything on the sight tube but I thought I would open the drain bung on it anyway just to see what cr@p it was acquiring. Imagine my suprise when I drained about half a litre of water out of it !. The tank was full and the reason I thought it was empty was that the water was above the level of the sight tube so it looked empty. No cr@p came out just clear, iffy smelling water. I'm assuming this is just condensation and I need to remember to drain it more often (before it takes in a lungfull !) and nothing abnormal ?

my catch tank has always filled with a sort of creamy gunk, like a combination of oil & water. I was going to say you sure the PCV isn't already blocked? but not sure how it would fill with just water then tho

Any pics or guidance on relocating the tank woud be appreciated, from this thread it is apparent that it is kind of useful to see what is going on. Phil.

i mounted mine onto the ABS bracket, 3 torx screws to remove the ECU then screwed the tank in from the other side (but i've got the early ABS so yourself might be different). As for the piping the thick pipe from the PCV to the air intake (just before the turbo) goes to the inlet of the catch tank & block up the old hole. The outlet from the catch tank gets left open to vent to the atmosphere

Mine always fills with the same as p.fandango's sort of creamy/oil gunk and a bit of liquid

This is mine. Plumbed 'in line' at the moment but may change it to externally vent if it keeps filling up with water !

ive seen most of these located high up but imho i would locate myne at either the same level as the pcv or below it thus making it easier for it to vent through instead of towing going up hill

Easier said then done though, not much room under the hood to fit one as I found out (my brackets actually back to front from how I'd originally fitted it but had to swap it around to get enough clearance) and squeezing the pipework in was tricky, especially because my pcv pipework is copper and goes right up to the rubber elbow in the inlet pipe.

theirs quite a bit of pressure behind the fumes anyway mate so the height isn't an issue mate
