Guys,

How about a photo of the month feature. (Volvos only)

As most of our cars look the same month in month out, focusing on the photography aspect and judge the winner on the best image i.e. car / setting / photo imagery

In effect creating a gallery of greatness......

It will cost nothing to set up and should have a good interest.

Thoughts ?

Maybe start the competition at the beginning of each month. Ie enter a pic now and judge the winner on Aug 1st. Then start entries for September 1st Judging from Aug 1st in a new thread etc....just my 2 penneth.

Well id say all pics must be uploaded on the thread, so thats under 90kb limit i think. It's no good some posting here, someone else on VB garage etc...., to enter you must post here, one entry each maybee? I dunno lol, Justin make some rules up lol quick..

Pics are easy to resize using PAINT program on XP.

Hmmn how about these? (one each month)
1. Volvo's in interesting/distant/famous places
2. Volvo vs the elements (driving through the snow/rain)
3. Volvos and speed/movement (blurred background etc)
4. Volvos and famous cars of the same era (parked next to some relevant rally car or nicely modded saab etc?)
5. Volvos and their place in a family (think little girl clutching teddybear asleep looking back out the rear window with the www.volvot5.co.uk sticker on the rear etc)
6. Volvos and how much unusual crap you can get in them / how many volvo t5 forum members you can get into a volvo

Ok that would keep us busy for a half year...?

A few suggested rules:-

1. Max of 2 pics per month per member.
2. Entered pics must contain a Volvo in some way, preferably yours.
3. Obviously you must have taken the pics, ie no using Carsons or magazines etc, wots the point, its just a bit of fun.
4. All pics must be under 90kb in size and entry is by attachment to the specific monthly thread only.


I'm just not sure on how we could pick the winner, if we get 50 photos entered its a bit hard to do it by a poll. Could the mods fairly decide the winner ? And under which section shall we run the thread ? General ?

Mods will be trusted to enter & judge pics, thats if they agree to judge, i think they do enough personally but can't see another system. So decide if these ground rules are OK and lets get an August comp running.

Hello.....i forgot i started this thread :wavey:


My original thoughts were,

- Each month to pick a theme, (the ones that PZorb came up with was kind of along my lines of thinking)

- Everyone who wants to enter sends in 1 picture (otherwise you have too many to choose from) members should do their own editing.

- The administrators do the picking (i think they qualify on knowing Volvos, and as they are more than 1 person each will have differing tastes)

- A date is set for cut off of photos being submitted, set by the administrators (think how long it will take to re size some and pick a winner)

- A date is set for the winner each month.

Doesnt need to be a prize giving thing though, just recognition to the best picture.

P.s. if you decide to post all the pics and hold a vote on the forum, this may get corrupted by people voting for their own pics or their mates pics. and will take alot longer to judge (thats why its better the administrators judging i think)

P.s. i dont think it should be out of the question getting professional help if its available (i wont have any by the way) its all about creating great Volvo images and sometimes a good theme or setting will win over a standard vehicle shot which may be better exposed.

Well i think the theme thing is over the top myself, it cud be snowing in Kent and Sunny in Stockport, i dont put junk in my cars lol, i aint got a family or a fluffy teddy bear, i cant take a pic of mine going fast coz i'm driving it lol, i think if you are allowed 1 or 2 pics you gamble on what you take or send in and thats that. I'd much rather see entrys like Carsons than an average car pic win coz theres a 3 yr old with a dummy in sat on the bonnet or a Cocker Spaniel sat driving with Timmy Mallets sunglasses on, soz just my 10 bobsworth. Clock is ticking.

I need to re-shoot those, they didn't turn out as well as I had hoped :( Note the B- grade... I was rushed at the time, I was sharing the tripod with my buddy who was taking pictures of his car too, and he was from out of town so couldn't just go back to that spot as easily as I could.

I think Carson should be allowed to enter. High standards are needed to prevent it turning into a bunch of Autotrader shots. I think that his pics are inspirational.

I wasnt implying that it was. By having the likes of Carson's photos in the competition - I would hope it would inspire others (including myself) to be creative and innovative. I didnt mean to belittle anyone in anyway - or discourage. I also agree that you don't need to be David Bailey to make a good shot.

Well, as a compromise - how about letting the judges (Moppy, Don, Carson, and myself) submit photos to the competition threads each month, but not be considered for the competition itself?

I bet I could come up with some myself (given enough Autoglym...)
