Hi guys, im back on the forum after 3 years? I used to have a C70 T5 saffy
now im back with a S60 T5 2001 88k miles,
So far i have a list longer than my arm to sort out!!
first off i want to fix the broken parts and sort out a good stage 0
before attempting any remapping/porting/changing turbos about
It managed to tear the top engine mount all by its self on the same day i bought it!
Tracking is miles out! so maybe some wishbone, engine and strut power flex bushes and a decent Geo will sort that out?
Exhaust is on its way out, but looking at Volvo prices i will wait until it falls off and make my self a custom one,
Its never had a timing belt, and also by the looks of it never had a fuel filter change,
So im thinking a full major service including gear box flush and fill is in need!
Should i change the water pump and tensioner/idle pullys whilst im there or is it not really needed as this is going to cost a fair bit at the end,
Samco silicon piping will be used to change all vacuum pipes, how much of 3/6mm will be needed to change the lot over?
I have a idle problem also jumps up and down 100-200 rpm disconnected the MAF and made no difference i found 2 sensors next to each other on a pipe that goes to/from the inter cooler i d/c that and it seem to idle nice, reconnected it and it was lumpy again(and now threw up a engine management light!) what is that sensor called??
Is it also worth taking the inter cooler out and giving the inside and out sides a good clean?
Change fan belt aswell whilst its all off?
Is there any thing i have missed? and what would you change to a unloved S60 T5,
body work is mint!

Many thanks

Alex (looking forward to some volvo meets)
sorry for bad pics

Ok, the water pump is not a required change over, they usually last very well.

The silicone vac hoses (the TCV & recirc hoses are the only ones that really suffer) shouldn't take more than 2M of hose, I got extra just in case there was any other bits needing doing, but the 6mm hose is limited to about 2M. If you want to do EVERYTHING, then you'r going to need to buy lots of other sizes too.

The "hunt" at idle will be the ETM (electronic throttle module) which is basically the weakest linkin the whole thing, Volvo got some dodgy Italian lot to make them & they all fail or get bunged up with rubbish & then get intermittent signals. Hence the movement.

Your "code" will dissapear eventually, but if you have a code reader youcould always clear it.

TBH I'm sure there is NO fan belt on post 2000 cars (and some pre 2000 too) as it's an electrical fan, not belt driven. This way the fan can run after the car is off.

Do the aux belt (alternator & PAS pump) & the tensioner.

The intercooler clean is possibly worth while, but a bit of an effort.

The ETM is "sometimes" considered a FREE! (yes I did use that word) service clean by any Volvo main dealer.

This is only if the car has not had this done before, or had a replacement (improved) ETM.

Best advice is to call your nearest main stealers & give them the reg. They'll check it & tell you if this is possible.

Please note that a clean & SW update is free, but the replacement of a spent ETM will be £250+.

Get confirmation that the job will be free first, then take the car down!

Badger, not sure about the 250+ for etm

Got mine changed 3 years back and only paid 173 for the etm, though the labour was alot

Last "quoted" price made on this site IIRC was £248 (incl vat & labour) but they move thoes goal posts on a month by month basis, also VAT went back up in Jan, so this may fudge my figure too!

Clean first, replace if that fails. The clean worked on my T5, so it's possible it may do for loads of others.

Use 99 ron (V-power is the best) & try a fule injector/system cleaner on a semi regular basis to reduce the issues return. :)

Nice shopping list, but you missed your aux belt tensioner. Replace it as they squeal when they get old.

SHAMELESS PLUG

If you are doing wishbone nushes then uprate to PowerFlex fronts.

You know it makes sense . . .

I spent just over £100 on powerflex bushes,i hope to see a large differnce as the old ones are fukerd and ripped to bits and will prob end up doing the other front wishbones aswell when i feel the need to,
shall i do a write up with pics? or has it been done to death already?

Also has a Cambelt write up with pics been done on this forum as i cant seem to see any using the search button? would any one be interested in seeing this?
