I've had them around where the waste gate flap sits. I would imagine it'd have some effect but I've never noticed.

All the older turbos I've ever taken off have had that sort of cracking in one way or another. The standard T25 on my Bluebird had the same, And that had 18 months of 20psi with no probs.
