Why do ecu chip companys lie about bhp figuers?

304 does'nt refer to the bhp the same as the 280 map, all cars will give different bhp figs with these maps depending on engine, turbo condition etc etc, i think they are just code numbers for the maps but could well be wrong(it has been known lol)

As said before it all depends on the conditon of your motor,i would say you will be looking around 260/270bhp from a map.
I was in the same boat when i first started with the volvo's thinking a remap would give me 300bhp lol was i wrong, just look what ive been doing to get what i hope is a proper 300bhp t5.
At the end of the day i would start with a remap then see what you think a few months down the line, for £150 its a bargin and if you upgrade after that you can always sell the ecu on for not much less than that anyway.

HLM do custom mapping but not sure if they adjust the off-the-shelf map or start a fresh (i'm not the best person to talk to about remaps lol)

Custom mapping is different map altogether I think and it is recommended if you go bigger turbo as you could bend rods. But just a remap on the stock turbo is a nice starting point till you get bored of the extra power and want more!
