Yes it will. Even cleaning off the oil and grime deposits from the compressor and turbine wheels can affect the balancing when reassembled. people do use them after a rebuild if put back exactly as dismantled but balancing is the best option for turbo/bearing life longevity.

I rebuilt mine without any problems. Didn't have it balanced (yes I know but I couldn't find anywhere to do it !) but 50 thousand miles later it's still okay !

I did my own as well with no problems, followed this guide

Fairly easy if you follow that. One thing i will say is that the genuine mitsubishi refurb kits come with more parts so i would suggest getting one. I got mine from ebay for around £80 delivered. You can still get it balanced after if you like, i think owen developments do the balancing for around £40-£50

yeah a know m8 the diff is the td04,td04l,td04hl thats the exhaust wheel and the compressour side is 15g,16t,18t etc , but you can get a tdo5-20g which a lot of the yankies use with good results

I've rebuilt mine twice, and I've recently done a 16T that I bought not long ago, its not too hard as long as you're careful. Just make sure you get the right kit (like I didn't), and there are two different compressor wheel types; Flatback and Superback. Both kits are virtually the same except for a couple of parts.
