Just got message on dash: trunk lid open. It looks like the latch is not locking on the pin. Not central locking problem. Can i just take it out and try cleaning it? Or any ideas what might be wrong with it? Greg

There was a similar thread about an S60 boot not latching just recently. I think it may have been a dud solenoid in the catch mechanisim.

Do a search for S60 boot.

Hello, I just had that problem the other week. I removed the latch and loosened the screws holding it together, and heard the solenoid release the lock. I could then operate it manually by keeping one of the back seats down and pulling on the cable that I left hanging loose. Whatever I did though i could not get the release to operate via the key fob button or the button on the lid. I suspect the temperatures have killed the solenoid. In the end I got a replacement from Doncaster motor spares for £30 plus vat and delivery. Simon at FRF could do new for about £90.
