Hi guys you got a lovely forum here I introduce myself later if I get the car so help required. This is the ebay link its done 175k broken rear window and no battery and can sometimes stick in third. is it worth getting for say £250 and fixing up or will I be getting a money pit. I always wanted one. But not sure at paying some of the asking prices for high mileage cars . Anyone know why it might get stuck in third apart from the obvious a shagged gearbox, is this an attribute of Volvo's. I not heard of it and i been lurking for a while.

Any advise would be welcome and its ending in 4 hours help

thanks Stu

ide personally wait to find a good one with less miles you will be able to pick a good t5 for way under £1000 with alot less milage than that one.

I would say go for it coz i'm a fan of high mileage cars..But unless you get it for £200-£300 it may not be worth it as the gearbox needs attention..So i'm inclined to agree with t5 pete.
Hope this is of use.

i agree, if you can get it for £300 max, it will be a bargain, esp with that long MOT. A battery id is £50 and you willg et a tailgate cheap enough. The issue will be the gearbox, but you can pick one up for under £100, as long as you are prepared to fit it yourself, you will have a tidy motor for around £500. Dont be too put off by the milage, i bought mine for £450, with 12 months mot, as it had 162k, but as long as you service it correctly, it can be good for another 30k

Buy a goodun, by the time you have bought the spares and spent the time to fix up an old dog you will wish you had. At the end of it you may still have an old dog. Sorry to be a bore, but that is the truth.

the way i see things, is you can pay £1000 for a so called good one, but you know really nothing about it. Of course the seller will give you all the right notes about how good it is.

I bought mine cheap, and have spend prob £300 now on parts etc, but that comes to around £750, but I KNOW myself, what parts have been changed, and what state everything is in. It is one of them decisions that you have to make. pay cheap, and get some problems, but if you are prepared to put the work in, you will end up with a nice car, that you have fixed and you know the history

as my quote above, for £300 you are goiong to get issues you need to fix. So for £200 for the other car, it gives you £100 extra, but it already has an MOT!

Plus you'll need some Columbas!

Looks like they have been sold off already!

So that'll be another £150 (min) too...

Avoid like the plague - even if it was free its not worth the hassle....

Provided they've been looked after these cars go on for ever so don't worry to much about the mileage.
