remote locking

Hello, my remote just stopped working suddenly. replaced batteries and i know it transmits as it sets off sons fart machine!! done the reprogramming thing but nothing, anything on car i can check??

Just an update, it's still not working but noticed today the tailgate does not lock either with central locking or key. Key turns about 270degrees to right but does not lock at all. Could this be related, paranoid now as it's left open on main road... Plan to take trim off tonight and have a look but is there anything obvious I should look for. Any advice much appreciated.
