Anybody got any feelings about tinting medium on all rear glass on my T5. I have a good reason but just feel that tinting is saying that ive got something in the back come and nick me. Not sure, sometimes think it looks good and sometimes think it looks a bit chav, no disrespect to all chavs out there, could be deep water, but never mind.

Hi...I'm into window tinting esp on 850/v70 estates. The last estate i had done was done very badly, looking out of the car all you could see was lots of little white spots where there was dirt and grit still on the windows when the dark film was put on.
I understand in recent years that you have to pay loads of money to get it right.ie (a company that has a clean room where it is totally dust free, and free from draughts)
When done right they do look mean and moody.. :-)

I fitted the Volvo sun blinds, they cost about the same & can be removed if you want to, cleaned & the windows.

I prefered the idea, as I can take them out if* I ever sell her.

I must admit I like tints but only light smoke all round. I'm not a fan of normal fronts and dark rears, if I wanted a van I'd buy one! No offense to anyone that does like darker rears but this is just my opinion.
You can get blinds for the rear doors and boot space/hatch which are removable and apparently look nearly as good as tints.

They are pretty good for the money. I think I spent £30 a set (£60 fot the whole rear of the car).

I couldn't get a tint kit for the P2 when I bought her & couldn't be fussed paying £100 for a custom jobbie.

You get what you pay for though!

Volvo sun blinds?? Didn't know they did them. Anyone got any pictures? I'm interested.
I was considering a tint all round (apart from the fronts), but not sure how it would look. I've got 'Limmo black' tints on my Defender 110 station wagon and look like an off road pimp...
Thoughts anyone??? (not about pimps)

My tints were graded from very light at the front getting darker towards the rear, looked really good.
Some peeps at work thought it was crap, but i didnt...I dont worry about what others say,i do what i'm happy with.
Because the estate was dark olive pearl with tints it did look a bit like a hearse.. Having said that, i would buy a volvo hearse. :-)

I've got the volvo blinds too, I said when I fitted them that they would only stay during the summer but haven't removed them. They're quite smart & kind of give a tinted look but are more functional than cosmetic.

I have light smoked on the fronts and limo black on the rears, the only thing i have in the back is the kiddies in the 7 seat conversion, but i can see what your saying about hiding stuff.

Never really thought about it that way, but i think it looks good anyway and touch wood it hasnt attracted the wrong sort yet..............

A brilliant job done by TC.

I suppose the colour of the car to start with has a lot to do with it as well.

Pretty groovy!

I was intent on keeping them in just for summer time too!

Ah well, about a year and a half later.... Still take them out to clean the windows every six weeks or so.

Are these for the P2's only ?

thebadger

Sadly, yes.

They didn't do a P1 set to my knowledge.

Those blinds are the dogs!!!!! Where can I get sets ? I assume my local Volvo Dealer. The cost for a full tint down hear is about 230 notes. What is the cost of a full set of blinds. Must admit I prefer those to tints 100% flexible. Thanks.

+1 for the blinds here too. Went down very well in 40+ degree heat in France last summer.

I didn't buy from Volvo, but got mine from a supplier who specialises in blinds for lots of different makes. IIRC they cost about £100 and fit rear doors, load compartment sides and tailgate. After summer I've left the load sides in. I think they are more practical than tints, nothing to scratch and you can leave the blinds in place with the windows open.

Cameron if you want to order some just see Andy at TMS in Failsworth, I'm sure they were listed for your motor as well as P2s

Blinds everywhere!
Those look really good...I'm sold on them now. Any idea of the cost from the stealer? How do they attach to the windows - especially the rear passenger ones?
This forum is ace.
I've got an exam in March...can anyone help????

I got mine from FRF Swansea, send Rufe a private message, ring up and pay (im sure they were about £60 although it was a while ago) and they get delivered to your door.

They come with little plastic brackets/clips are easy to remove & have a bag to keep them in when removed. The kids like them & act as a flyscreen when the window is open too :)

p.s can't help with exams

I got my sets off PFV, they had a discount running on the last few sets they had in.

I paid about £30.23 for each set (mad percentage discount from £60) & £8 for postage.

Rufe may do a better deal on them tho!

What is included in each set? Are they just clip ons or on a roller?

thebadger
Tuesday 2nd February 2010, 07:55
All of them should have clips to go on.

No rollers.

I personally stuck the rear window blind into the plastic shroud & didn't use the clips. 3 sides is enough to hold it.

The rear cargos have sticky pad clips.

The rear doors have plastic hooks that go round the door/window seal.

Also as they are blinds they stay in place if the window goes down too! Less rubbish going into the car! Or kids throwing stuff out!

Just spoke to my local Volvo dealer got a Volvo set on order 3 No side and rear. Cost £35.00 inc vat. I don't believe it £35.00 quid from a Volvo dealer. Makes a change to get something cheap. LOL

I agree Rich that does sound cheap. Maybe quoted for the load area only (3 pieces) doesn't include the rear doors.

Yep misled you £35 for the load area only 3 pieces. still very cheap. I am lead to believe that the Volvo door ones are not full width of the door. I will ask him to get a set in for a look. I think the door ones are on rollers.

They are full width of the glass, they are on clips you can just about make out them at at the top corners and on the sides as shown on kyeboshs image:

Thanks for the pics just ordered two rear door blinds wait 4 it they cost per pair £50.00 so £75 all rear £250 for tints so job done with flexibility. I do like the blinds as on the pics above.

They are that good a fit I didn't need the clips for the load area blinds, only used the clips for the rear door ones.

You must have had a good set then because mine didn't fit that well at all around the load area and rear screen (I made my own mounting solution using small screws). The door ones were spot on though.

Like I said, I pushed the metal loop into the plastic shroud of the tailgate window.

The rear load side windows are a bit fiddily. I used the plastic sticky lugs supplied, but they don't stay stuck!

I resorted to silicon.

The rear screen 'popped out' so many times within the first week of fitting them that I had to find a better way, which I did...

£75 all in????
I think I'll have to get a set. Thanks to all for the photos - they make decisions much easier.
I do like the tints, but the blinds look smart. I'll make do with one car tinted and one blinded!

Picked mine up today from My Local Volvo dealer. Rear and Doors. The rear load area ones come in a nice bag. fitted two side panels, need a bit of fitting, doing the rear when it stops raining. The door ones are on rollers not the ones I wanted and they are the ones that cost £50 so they are being swopped for the fixed door ones which are cheaper and better. The kit includes 10 plastic bits. I think the cost for all rear windows will be about £65.00. I am looking for black sticky pads to give an extra hold on the load side ones as their is bits from the radio sticking out from the glass.

Ahh, yeah, the roller ones!

They don't go all the way to the top edge of the windows & they don't cover all the glass.

Looked at them on ebay, but couldn't justify the costs or having two sets.

The clip in ones are a bit better looking from all sides & lighter too.

Cambridge Volvo have just quoted me £30.92 for the rears and £30.92 for the doors all in.

Car booked in on the 10th Feb for new roof spoiler and new mud flaps so they will swop then. I think the roller ones are OK if you have kids in the back and you are going on holiday where the sun shines LOL

Sounds like you are getting sorted, I haven't seen the roller type. The sticky pads weren't that great as it looks like we have all experienced, I did use them but think I used a small blob of superglue to provide a better fixing.

I think if your mud flaps hit the deck you have a big problem, if I interperate your comment correctly.

Well the car is down 40mm & the drive has a steep bump into the gutter on my road.

I Just don't fancy paying £30 a set to then grind £5 off each one by tarmacadam!

My '99 V70R awd had mud flaps and it used to scrape kerbs all the time when you drop down them. That's with Nivomats too...and yes they worked. Also the R AWD's were 20mm lower than a stock T5 anyway, so figures. You just have to be careful..or don't fit them. My new R doesn't have them. Personally, i prefer the cleaner look without.
