everywhere

Found today the split pipe on the turbo.
Not in a good way at all!

Is there supposed to be oil inside the turbo pipes?
Had a peer inside the turbo too and that has a rather nice coating of oil as well.
Plenty of oil leaking from the throttle body too - any ideas?

Volvo have said that the pipe was split and that the "in turbo flexi-pipe" was leaking too.
WTF is that?
VADIS doesn't show anything like that at all.
Mind you it doesn't show the pipework that mine has either?
It shows mine as having a 90 flexi coming up off the turbo to the rigid pipe but mine has a single 50/55mm joiner on the turbo.
Volvo want £50 for it!
I can get the Samco set for less than that from PRV.

Does anyone know what the "flexi" Volvo have said is leaking is?
Or are they taking the piss?
And why have I got oil leaking from the throttle body?

Oil doesn't leak from the throttle body. It's been spread all over by the turbo. You need to clean it all off, then clean it all out of the hoses and don't forget to clean out the intercooler. Check the oil return line from the turbo to the block, if that's restricted then the oil can't get through the turbo bearing and overflows into the inlet. Check your breather system isn't restricted as this can have the same effect.

OK, that means trying to get the bloody heat shield off though........
How the hell do you get the spring loaded bolts undone?
I take it I need to take the inlet manifold off too to clean the PCV out?

Yeah manifold off unfortunatelly.

On my T5 i just unbolted the heat shield no worries, its just a bugger to get out :grumpy:

Bugger!
Tried to get the bloody thing off yesterday but the spring loaded bolts were solid even with the air ratchet on them!
Oh well guess I'll leave it till next weekend and go from there.
Don't suppose anyone fancies an endless supply of coffee?
This is my 1st Volvo so learning VERY quickly on this.

Give the bolts a right good soaking in WD40 then go back to it after 10 minutes.

I had to do that and they were a bit easier, just have to be careful not too snap them :B_thumb:

There's one thats on top and one that goes under.
Worst was the state of the link pipe - ££££in big hole!
Def will check check the return pipe and the PCV.
May well change all the vacumn hoses too with normal for the time being.
Still has what feels like a misfire though after new plugs. Air leak or blocked pipe?

Still don't know WTF this "in turbo flexi pipe" is that Volvo put on the list though. Scam?

the oil inlet on top of the turbo will be the oil in, i would assume its getting oil or it would have stopped spinning long ago! i would also be very supprised if the return to the block pipe was blocked unless you have serious issues elswhere....

if the oil is that bad in the intercooler pipes i would either suspect badly worn turbo seals or a blocked pcv system... the easiest bit to check on the pcv is the inlet pipe heater! these have a habbit of blocking first ;)
