How much do you usually pay for a regular service at a main dealer or specialist? I've got the light come up on my S60 T5. Thanks

As I said before Matt general stuff Oil change, Filters, fluid levels and visual checks I do my self I also keep all reciepts for parts in a folder that will go with the car if I sell that way people can see whats been done and when. Major Service Cam Belt etc if the car is under the manufacturers warranty I use the dealer when its out of warranty then I use Charlwood Volvo. They are an excellent Independant with all the right kit the last Major Cam Belt service on my 03 car last June was £548 inc VAT.

Pales into insignificance compared to the E55 Merc I had. I am sure the dealer had an attachment to my credit card that just charged me when I drove past the dealers, average service was always in 4 figures, tyres £300+ a corner. The performance was mental though.
Thats why I come back to the Volvo good value for money, good performance and build quality and if they are tuned performance to scare the pants of the Mother Inlaw.

if they are tuned performance to scare the pants of the Mother Inlaw.
That's it you have just made me feel really ill :sick::sick:

Why did you have to mention Mother-in-Law and pants in the same sentence as Volvo performance?

You realise it's going to take me ages to get that vision out of my mind?

There should be rules about writing things like that on a forum about Volvos.

My local main dealer in York charge £89 per hour labour. I once rang them for a quote on a major service and was told a figure over £500 which I think included spark plugs. (Insanity) Fortunately for me, my mate is a very experienced mechanic. He did oil, filters, sparks and all the usual bits for me at £10 an hour and trade cost on the parts. Now I know if you can't do it yourself or have a mate who will do you a special price it won't be that cheap, but you will still save hundreds compared to main dealers. Personally the money you might add to your cars resale value by having a 100% Volvo service history is far outweighed by what you will save over a few years ownership.

Raises many interesting questions about the value of service history and schedules. I think the decision about who you choose to do the work should be competence based – clearly there are simple jobs most of us can do at home, regular service items that any garage can complete and more specialist tasks that a good Volvo indie or dealer will have to complete. You’ll need the service history and schedule to determine the required competencies though so you’re back around the loop.

For a basic oil, filters, plugs service you’re probably looking at about £200-odd at a good indie, depending upon labour rates and the quality of the parts specified/ used. Have a look through the cars history though and check against the Haynes schedule if you can.
