As the car is multiplex wired, unfortunately no.

I think this is a job for your nearest independant or main dealer. Failing that a qualified auto electrician as this is not one you're going to fix with a circuit tester :(

Just a thought, you could try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting after a short time, the electrical system may have its knickers in a twist and this might just sort it out.

I'm sorry, I don't know anyone in N.I. to recommend. Euro car Parts in Belfast, 02890 689 700 may be able to recommend someone.

Have you tried the reset of the UEM yet?

In the car, key in the ignition, position II (not running), pull UP on both front window switches for at least 8 seconds, release them, key out of ignition, now using the remote fob whilst STAYING IN THE CAR, Lock, unlock, lock & unlock (yes you do it twice).

This resets the UEM (upper or front electronic moduel).

i've used these guys a couple of times http://www.salvogroup.co.uk/salvosite.htm and one of those was for a door lock, reasonable price and think there might be a forum discount. They posted the items to me. Does sound like the mechanism is tight though and would need lubrication.

boot latch is £141.00 from dealer.

if yours is the same model at the top of the door card right behind the wiper you can bend it out just enough to see down if you look right down you will see a pile of white plastic at the bottom right underneath the white plastic you will see a piece of black plastic square roughly 1cm in the path of the handle pole push it down you should here a click that should unlock the door

Thanks for that, mine is a MY03 V70 T5 SE so I think it should be the same.
I will have a go tomorrow and let you know how succesful or not its been.

Hi
Thanks everyone, just opened it up took out the lock as I couldnt see anything obvious but the solonoid had become completely dry and very difficult to move, cleaned it and lubricated everything with a light silicon grease. All back together and working like new. Whole thing took less than an hour so I guess I just save a gudzillion pounds at Volvo rates.
Just going to do the other P2 V70 now as a precaution, the P1 V70 seems fine (12 years young and never misses a beat, probaly temting fate now)

It feels good when you can get something fixed and you don't have to pay the stealerships

just for info if it helps.......
the v70 p2 do suffer with tailgate lock/unlock issues,
open the tailgate,on the left hand side behind the panel that opens is a fuse box.....that fuse box does all the electrics on the rear of the car,
the relays in there control the central locking,
it has a seperate relay for lock & unlock & for each rear door/tailgate/& petrol cap,
apparently these models suffer with water getting into the fuse box,be it wet or damp, they corrode the circuit board inside the fuse box,
also the conections on the relays may be affected,
just pushing or moving the relays can restore the connection to the tailgate.
thus sorting the problem,
hopefully its just bad connections, rather than a faulty part,it seems that when its faulty it only supplies 8 or 9 volts to the solonoid which isnt enough to trigger it so it wont open,
on the plug that goes onto the solonoid is a grey wire & a yellow wire, ontop of each other, these are lock & unlock, check the voltage on each one,ie when lock & unlock,
