Hi All

Just wondering the name for the wheels.., they are 18" but im tempted to change to 17's....

I assume these were standard s60r fitment and that most s60 t5 wheels would fit?

Cheers

Scott

Yep, Pegasus, if they're 18".

Called Satelite if they are 17"

One of the top 5 wheels on the volvo OEM sets.

Pegs, Comets, Tethey, Nebulas & Orestes..

I also like Capella wheels too, but they cost far too much!

Pegs as I said come in 17" versions called Satelites

Comets come in 16" versions called Meteors (17" is the size of Comets, however they come in 7J & 7.5J widths).

Anyone with a set of Capellas who would like a set of Orestes.... Just kidding!

Just for info, the reason im considering a change is due to the rubbing on full lock...

Its not the end of the world, but these things annoy me :)

Id swap my T5 wheels for yours mate lol... but I have 17s and they also Rub on full Lock so I dont think going down a size wil stop the rubbing... I have rubbing every time i full lock either way on my S60T5

Axeboy

Ahh really?

Hmm, i thought going down to 17's would stop it... im not keen on having 'stops' fitted making the turning circle even worse...

shouldnt rub, what tyre size have you got?? should be 235/40/18.

also, check your bump stops on the wishbones.

Axeboy

tyres are 235/40/18

The tyres are rubbing on a small metal plate on the inside of the arch, lightly, but still

edit:

The dealer did offer to fit the stop kit... which I might do... or just pack with washers

Spacers are the only other option to consider.

The number of reps out there is incredible, I had a set of reps on my car when I bought it, swapped out for Orestes & have a set of Comets which I will get round to having refurbed this year!

You can get a 7J width wheel in 17" in genuine volvo wheels (not pegs tho), they should help reduce the rub the 8J causes.

They will still rub because even thou you drop down a size on the wheel you still have larger profile tyre to mainain the correct rotation for the speedo. So the height of the wheel and tyre combined will remain the same.

I've got an idea that will save you an absolute fortune.....Don't turn the steering on full lock!!! Strains the steering pump anyway!

im not sure if the 7J wheels will fit over the brakes.

In what sense?

The width of a wheel is not dictated by the size of brakes, the diameter is.

Comets came in 17" 7J & 17" 7.5J.

Either could be fitted on a T5 of almost any age!

yeah, but the guy is loooking to downsize to 17" from 18". i think he will need minimum of a 8J wheel to fit over the R brakes. or spacer on anything else in terms of depth of the wheel.

Pegs as I said come in 17" versions called Satelites

nope.

sattelites (however it's spelt) are different.

17" volvo pegs on my car.

edited to add, you wouldn't have a problem with brake clearance with 17" pegs as there are many S60Rs out there with 17" pegs!

one of the two were an option when new, can't remember which way round it was but i think the 18" wheels were the optional extra.

Maintaining the actual Rolling Radius is the important bit as your speedo and so on relies on "size"!

Bigger wheels (in my opinion" set a car off a lot better.

Lower profile tyres in turn give a firmer ride but having the thinner sidewall give better handlingn... to a degree.......

Not just because I bought Lee's car but because it makes sense .....

Follow his advice and don't turn the wheel as much!!

I'm sure it was sold mostly to the american market, without the R stamp in some cases, but I'm almost sure there was a different name. (comets versus meteors prove the name change does happen)

i thought it was common knowledge about the 17" pegs. obviously not.

just remembered, dooby also has 17" pegs on his car

info and wheel pics were nicked from this thread (http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=45233&highlight=alloy+names) after a very brief search.

the R's camewith 18's as standard. the 17's where a no cost option. hence not many around. only pegs will clear your brakes with out spacers. you will already have the black steering lock stocks on your R which are the biggest ones. they are probly worn down. swap them from left to right as this flips them up side down so will be like new ones. check the metal plates are sitting as close to the inner wing as they can.also try taking them off. if the tyre doesnt contact the arch liner then u dont need them

whos wheels irf?

You will notice that Satelite wheels have a very slight flare on the ends of the spokes as they meet the rim & that the center plate is mor pentagonal than the Pegs.
