Anybody confirm what the inner diameter (bore) (_8(|) for the vac hoses coming off the TCV should be?

5-6mm

I used some industrial 6mm silicone hose, as the rubber hose I got with my new TCV looked rotten.

Cheers - I've been looking at DIN-73379 Type-B fuel hose, which I think I can get in 6mm bore. Where did you get the silicone hosing from? I'd kinda ruled silicone out due to collapse/ expansion issues.

Thick grade 6mm blue silicone off ebay, twas aboot £5 a meter iirc.

The wall of the hose is about 3mm, so plenty thick & robust.

Well, I've replaced the blue and yellow vac hoses with some decent SAE 30 R7 fuel hose (against the badgers best advice) - couldn't get to the turbo housing one though so that's a job for another day.

The actuator hose had welded itself onto the nipple and took some getting off - haven't inspected the old stuff yet - no obvious cracks but a little brittle.

The best advice for the turbo line (red) is to get the air intake pipe off (detach the maf from the airbox & remove the other hoses) & the top IC return pipe (top of the turbo) as this lets you right into the heart of the turbo.

The silicone hose is probably more plyable than fuel hose. I'd also assume it's a bit more heat resistant, but I'm not 100% on what plastic/rubber they use for fuel hose.

Just googled it... to a max of +125°C is how it shows on Goodyears web info page... I'm guessing you could get a much higher temp off the turbo?

I did have a look at it from underneath and decided it was doable if the car was up on a ramp - will sleep on it I think.

The hose is internally braided so it's rock solid, though as you say it's probably not much better temperature resistance wise than what I've removed.

Also gapped the plugs whilst I was at it, they'd run out to 0.8mm.

Car is wheel spinning like it never did before now so there's been a defo improvement! :B_steerin

TBH I did the "look at it from below" myself when I assumed it would be worth a go myself.

It's easier to route & see where it goes from above. Also getting the air intake off for inspection. HADI's had gunge through it (condensation from a blocked PCV system which was cleaned but left it's mark) also checking the condition of the tail hose of the top IC pipe is a good idea! Fitting a clamp on the hose to the turbo TCV connection is a good plan, and seeing it from above is easier.

Yeah - had another butchers today and it looks like the best options, although the hose clamps are going to be a bitch to get off! Assume you took the cross-stay off for access?

Car still pulling loads better - I didn't dream it up - it's made a definite difference.

Just need to get approval for the missus for another day off to work on the car - now that really is the hard part! :eek:

Just the intake & the top IC hose.

Work around from there. I find once the air intake is off the view is much better!

Undo the two screws off the MAF & if you don't have a hose driver... get to halfords & buy one. The value of a flexi hose clamp driver is much higher than the £7 price tag!

Finally got around to replacing that more tricky red hose, actually turned out a fairly straight forward job, thanks in large to the badgers advice (ta!). I found access was easier with the cross-brace removed and tightened the hose clip on the turbo from underneath, where I found my previously lost T27 bit :-|

Also under advisement I checked the intake pipe and both ends of the turbo to intercooler charge pipe for signs of oil. As you can see from the picture and done and found some!

Can anybody advise on this please? Is this oil mist deposit from the PCV; if so does the PCV need doing; or could it be more worrisome wear within the turbo, signalling an overhaul being due?

Ok, the small amount of oil shown should be fine. Did you look inside the air intake hose (plastic) as there may be "gunge" of a white jelly like stuff.

If there is, then yes, the PCV will need a clean! ;)

Yes, I looked into the plastic hoses as far as I could, no sign of any emulsion so sounds like I need worry no more, for now.

Thanks for all the advice, made the job a whole load easier.
