whats the best cams to use on my t5r, 1 has a little bit wear and i can get a set of 2.0lpt cams for free , would these be any good or not cheers

Check with people like Kent cams, Pipes Cams etc, I looked a while back and one of them (cant remember which) is doing some uprated cams for the T5, they weren't cheap but if you have to replace them anyway you may as well put something in that'll give you more power.

Also check Russ's build where I think he lost power when he initially "uprated" the cams...?

From reading Russ' thread the other day, he used the NA cams as they're supposed to be better, and it lost power, so he had some made (I think anyway, I'm sure it was something like that).

2.5 20v cams are the 1s to use i had them in my v70 2.5t and that gained power at top end i dont know why russ lost power but my turbo never kicked in till 3k when the cams where at full song if this helps

All the turbo engine cams seem to be the same (i've checked P/Ns). Only the NA cams are coming up a different PN

But if they're free you might as well have them if they're in better nick

personally ide just get a set of replacement cams have a look to see if there are any heads for sale on ebay or try nads or salvoother that that if your going to keep the car buy a new set

they all seem to be a bit much pete lol , am still out of work like.

The NA exhaust cam seems to be one used with a standard T5 inlet cam. I was advised to run my car this way by someone who has there car set up with it slightly advanced at 3 degrees. Remember though that the lift of the NA cams is around 1mm higher so be careful when using them and advancing them as piston contact is a very close possibility if you have had a lot removed from the head.

sorry to be a pain, but do ME7 turbo's have the same cam PN

ME7 engines seem to have a number of different cams (there are 8 inlet, and 5 exhuast cams listed) including NA engines. They also change in MY1999 on the classic x70 series to 7 inlet and 5 exhaust variants. So any pre 99 turbo engine should have the same cams as the 850 T5 (from 1993).

amazing info thanks. Interesting that Volvospeed only say to fit the NA exhaust cam, yet newer ME7 engines & the Piper cam have a higher inlet left. The Piper even has a smaller lift than standard

Not sure if the ME7 cylinder heads are designed different to take the higher lift. So could be a problem with older engines.

i fitted na cams to mine no probs at all and they was set on standard settings and i found they powered better future up the rev range,but the is no point in putting na cams in if you dont put a bigger turbo on .i put them in mine because i was running a t35 hybrid garrett so the turbo was not on full song till the 3k when the cams were in full flow too.

the 2.0lpt cams are off a 54plate car , s they probs wont help. all the heads on ebay have a few miles on and i will be taking the chance with them incase they are worn. smithy m8 a think i might just get the hybrid turbo thats built for the t5r from turbo technics to savr all the hassle of gettin inlet pipes made , how laggy is your turbo in the car m8 cheers
