Since I became interested in one I've been keeping my eye on Ebay and Autotrader websites so I can see what sort of money they're fetching and what spec's are available. The trouble is that I want a saloon with a manual gearbox and in the facelifted shape rather than the old one, can I find one???..where the hell are they all?. The only one's being advertised are either estates or auto's and I can't stand the back end of the 960 estate's.

What do you mean by face lift model? do you mean the same as the S90?

Well... the reason you are not finding one is 'cos they didn't make many, and they sold even less of that spec in the UK!!! The vast vast vast majority of 900s were autos.

Good luck with it.

Cheers, Al. I've no reall objection to an Auto, however I'd sooner have a manual if I can find one. As it so happens my father in law has an old shape 940 turbo sat on his driveway gathering moss, wonder if the gearbox would fit a 960?..

Yeah, would make the ideal donor car as it's been sat idle for years and he wants rid of it anyway.

the gearbox bellhousing are different ,the white glass has got the same style bellhousing as the 850/v70 m56 fwd .if i was you get a late 940 saloon cd spec manual easy to mod and rwd and all the body panels are interchangable on 940/960/s90/v90 and also better on fuel ,plus 200k is just run on the redblock lol

the last 940 lpts p/r regs where alot better car and has the 4th generation redblack said to be 1 of the strongest in standard form .but the straight 6 are nice and smooth and sounds nice too so i do understand your point. when i went from my lovely v70 turbo to my 940 lpt i didnt think i would like it but now i luv the thing i must be mad lol

Mate keep your eyes out you will get one. A mate of mine had his gold 964 up for sale last year with 6 months tax and a full years mot. It was a 2.5 6 cylinder manual and in mint condition. I had the T5 at the time so didn't want anything else but shortly after the T5 gave up so I phoned him and he had just sold it the previous day for £400. It went to England so keep yours eyes peeled you will get one they are there. I'm just annoyed I hadn't bought that one at the time.

Thanks for the offer Pete, but if I'm going to be driving it then that's one of the first thing's that's going to get done, I've already checked prices, £450 ish for a manifold back stainless performance system with two pipes.

My father has a 960 or 964 estate. It is a genuine old boys car Volvo as per the stereotype that we all know rarely fits these days.
It is a J-Reg and goes from his house to the golf club over the road most days ( a few hundred yards) . He is quite shall we say comfortable financially but loves the car and wont ever change it hes not flash , one of those types. Eventually he had to allow the wife to have her XC90 but he's happy in his J reg car as the boot is huge for clubs and lecie trolley.

I know it's the largest engine and widest boot and its rare , is that a 960 or 964 ?. I dont think I'll ever be able to aquire it for anyone as he'll never let it go but its quite rare I'm told.

Regards Mas
