Hello all, back again,
after much faffing about Ive finally replaced the MAF sensor (bosch of course). But the idle is a bloody pain. I have the geartronic box and when in Park its as smooth as a nut at 750 rpm. put it into Reverse or drive and the wobble starts between 800 - 600 up and down and up and down bloody annoying in traffic. Any ideas?
Been looking at existing threads and Id rather start with the easy stuff (not being very mechanically minded) before I go onto cleaning the ETM!!!!

Oh yeah V70 T5 Phase2 2001 x plate.

Check for leaks in the charge system. Make sure the pressure and intake temp sensors are properly seated. Make sure any clips holding on hoses are nice and tight too.

How did I know youd appear first!
Its all well and good describing these things but being a kinestetic learner I have problems visulising (can you tell the wifes a teacher!) any photos or links to photos?

BTW looking at the photos of your motor where did you get the shinny silver knobs (oooeeerrrr) on your radio and climate, they are nice.

The two sensors in question are the ones directly behind the radiator fan, on top of the black hose that goes from the intercooler to the throttle module, the black pipe is just below the inlet manifold.

They are right next to each other, with a cable attached to them.

You haven't had any autologic gearbox software updates have you...?

Gear box was done ages ago, its holds gear now and doesnt go into freewheel on deceleration. Ill have a look at those two bits you mention and see how I do!

Ahem back again, just been for a spin and its erratic again 800-900 on average. Once the engine was warm seemed to settle. stop the engine for 5 mins start again and erratci again.
Sorry to ask but whats next?

Wasn't sure if that was the issue to be honest....

Can I ask who updated the gearbox software and with what ? (ie what software...)

Assuming plugs are good and there are no other leaks, I'd get the throttle body cleaned.

Assuming you have fixed it by now...?

Firstly your car shouldn't be idling at 750rpm. It should be 850rpm. secondly i had exactly the same problem on my car when i first got it. Software flash is the first port of call...if the DTC light comes back on then it is not cured. Mine was intermittant and a real PITA. Take it back, get your wallet out and hand over £300 for a new ETM and software reprogramme. Believe me, your car will drive even better than it does now!! You will have gotten used to it by now, but with a new ETM it will be a different car.

What's this freewheel on deceleration? Sounds like something I may have.

freewhell on deceleration is the old way tiptronic box worked when you took your foot of the throttle it put box into nuetral. Problme was as valve body in the gearbox wore out the gears would then clunk back in when you pressed the throttle, quick fix by main stealer reprogrammes the box to stop it going into freewheel

That sounds exactly like what I have. You just asked the dealer to reprogramme the box and it was fixed?

This only works when your stationary. If your moving then it won't freewheel. It's designed to save fuel when stationary in traffic.

Yeah it helped, but just showed my box needed a lot more spending on it! As for going into nuetral at the stop only that wasnt the case, DPG autos (an indy) explained they used to drop into freewheel on deceleration as well.

So I can just pop into my stealership and ask for them to stop this freewheel issue?

Edit -

Just spoke to my dealership here and they don't know what this issue is or anything about reprogramming the box to stop it happening? Any advice?

I wonder if Nigel_T5 meant DPA in Nottingham? If so, could be worth a phone call? Many members on here speak highly of them.

Spoke to a specialist who seems to think the freewheel on deceleration or auto-neutral only occurs when coming to a stop, not in any gear as I'm experiencing.

Nigel can you confirm what you had done and it's effect?

sorry it tok so long to get back!

no the freewheel issue was dealt with at dealer level when I first had the car (well before I realised how much they charge!) the box on deceleration (in gear) would roll then when you put your foot down 'clunk' they did some jiggery pokery with the software (gearbox upgrade) and it worked. The following clunk was far more serious (same effect) and that turned into a valve body replacement although a flush and refill as mentioned elsewhere on this site.
