I currently own a 440 1.7 turbo.

Only being 19, with no NCB and 3 points / insurance claim, the insurance is somewhat to be desired. £374 a month to be exact.

Im getting a new job soon which involves a 26 mile commute each way.

I need something strong and reliable. A diesel. Preferably no turbo due to that raising insurance even more. Any suggestions? Sticking with volvos of course.

The Turbo is group 11 ...................

I borrowed a brilliant little car from Readview it was a 440 Diesel ( although a turbo ) their really cheap to pick up and go really well, plus they do 50+ mpg :D

Its insurance group 8 so 3 groups down, maybe a bit of a saving ;)

This one (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200947346497389/sort/priceasc/usedcars/make/volvo/model/440/postcode/ol98hy/radius/1501/page/1/quicksearch/true?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fusedcars%2Fpos tcode%2Fol98hy%2Fradius%2F1501%2Fmake%2Fvolvo%2Fmo del%2F440%2Fsort%2Fpriceasc%2Fpage%2F1%2Fquicksear ch%2Ftrue&anchor=advert200947346497389&logcode=p) is only £500 and looks quite tidy as well :D

OMG!! you pay how much insurance!!
The best thing that I can think of is to buy a fiesta 1.1 or something which will be better to insure. You could then have a second car for either when you get some NCB or maybe for the track. The savings you would make on insurance you could put into the car and get it ready for when you can insure it etc. I love volvo's too mate but that is rediculous to be paying that much. Have you thought about doing things to get your ins down, pass plus scheme, any other road safety courses.

No matter what car i have my insurance is going to be high. I had a bog standard 1.2 clio and that was £208 a month.... Besides i really could use a diesel. and getting a small engined like 1 L straight diesel would use more fuel... how much throttle would that take to get to 70!?! lmao.

Can you not get someone to take over the insurance and drive it as a " Named Driver " ?

I did this when i had my Sierra Cosworth many moons ago, i was 18 the car ( E424 TSD ) cost me £5k and the insurance wanted another £5k to insure me, i know i should have checked the insurance first

Anyway i got my old man to insure it as his car and have me as a named driver, still cost me £1800 though, but waaaaaaaaaaayyy better than what they origonaly wanted.

Im already like 7 months through my insruance for my first years NCB, so pointless becoming a named driver now. lol.
