have you removed bulb again to see if problem dissapears, or swapped with other side?
Its not a single filament bulb you've fitted is it?, or bulb fitted upside down

Is it the right type bulb? My Volvo has the twin element bulb which has staggered and offset pins and is a 21w/4w bulb instead of the normal 21w/5w stop and tail. that extra watt could throw the system out

This happens to my lights once in a while...
I use the Fonz approach, a good dunt on the cluster & it suddenly works fine.. strange!

The next time you get a bulb outage, try it.
It does work.
