Hi, I have just signed up and own a 96/N 850 CD estate.

Having owned it for nearly five years with no real problems, things have now taken a turn for the worst.

In addition to a bust ACC (they all do that sir!), my local garage has diagnosed a faulty ABS ECU and have quoted £400 me to fix it.

I can get a replacement unit for approx. £100, but need advice on how easy (or otherwise) it is to swop the unit itself.

It would be great if you can post a picture where it is located and detailed steps on what I need to do.

Its easy to replace,

But save yourself £70 and take a look here (http://www.volvot5.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=224)

Steve

my ABS light has come on briefly recently only to go off again after a short while? any ideas or does it have a code system to read like the ecu. Taking it in thursday to have a look.

Have you this diagnostic port in your engine bay at the front on the left by the windscreen washer bottle ?

David - I have sent you a PM. The only slightly tricky thing about removing the unit is that the screws face downwards and space is a little confined. You can remove the airbox to make it easier to get in.

If your ABS light comes on and off regularly I can almost guarentee that the ABS ECU is on its way out. As Bracer said - I can repair them (on a no fix no fee basis)

The ABS ECU in this picture is in the bottom left hand corner (ignore the arrows) the pump is just above it (thing with 4 copper pipes coming out of it)

it is adjacent to the airbox and the pump is next to the N/S suspension turret
