Easier to just bin it?

To answer the question- it's not hard, but you need a good understanding of what you are doing, logical thinking, the right tools, acouple of home made special tools, the long haired roller + goo, plenty of time, and DO NOT cut corners.

Sounds okay.
I've done plenty of head gaskets before, But not on anything quite so short on space.
My mates garage at mates rates is around £500, Not worth doing. Having said that, I've been informed it could be the cooler in the rad that I didn't know was there. Waiting on one from Rufe which should be here Tuesday.

I would dredd to think what he would charge joe bloggs!
If your experienced like you say, you should be capable, get a Haynes manual to help you out!!
Hope it is the cooler in the rad mixing with the water!
Good Luck with it!

Cheers mate.
£500 is £200 more than I paid for the car nearly 2 years ago, So it hasn't done bad so far.:)
