went out this morning and i'm now getting an intermittant grinding from the o/s/r brake, when it grinds its proper nasty and as such you can see where its attacking the disc (right up close to inner edge, bout 3/4 of an inch wide).
Its not doing it all the time and brakes fine when its not grinding (obvious i know), but why would it be doing it on and off? Surely if pad had gone it'd be doing it all the time?

P.s, i'm not being lazy but cant leave 3 youngs kids to there own devices indoors while i'm out in the rain pulling brakes apart.

Possible you've just got a stone jammed in there, have had it happen before, have even seen a chunk of metal accidentally cast into the pads friction material before, gonna' have to pull it apart mate !

I had a problem like that where mine was making a grinding/squealing noise. I think a stone had got trapped in between the backplate and the inside hub part of the disc. Have you driven on any gravelly raods or newly tar sprayed/chipped roads lately?

All I did was push the bottom of the backplate in with a bar (didn't even remove the wheels) and a stone dropped out.

Makes a horrible noise when it happens.

yeah, it suddenly started happening after driving over a load of stones on the road, just odd that its not doing it all the time, and dont think its handbrake as when it does grind i end up using handbrake to come to a stop.

Yeah, sounds like what I get. Usually happens where I go over gravel or chippings. Just give the backplate a shove see if anyhtin comes out

nooooooo,
£110 for rear pads and discs, did passenger side fine, started drivers side to find outer pad completely gone, inner piston pushed back ok but would the outer one move? Would it f#ck.
So £117+ vat for new caliper, exchange unit at dealer, only then to undo the union on the caliper and the top of it to shear clean off.
Go to pick caliper up, ask main dealer to make new brake line up to get the reply 'sorry, have to order brake line as we cant make them'.
Come off it, now another £23+ vat, its getting close to £400 this week on parts. On the plus side my trade card still works in halfords so 1litre of dot4 and new bleeding kit came to £7.
