Spend lots of pennies on your beloved Volvo & the sodding thing is a pain to put through its mot & then a week later a major missfire creates a whopper of a boost spike & TWANG!!!! Bent rod. Not a good day.
Minter of a new engine scheduled to plonk in next week. :parhmph:

Exactly, for the amount of money it costs these days, uprated rods are good as just a precaution, if nothing else.

I can blame myself or Bosch for them making plug leads that didnt last more than 6k miles without breaking down, major missfire & running 19psi up a steep hill, boost boost, pop, missfire missfire, clonk!! Bent rod VERY easily!!
Thanks Mr Viking. I have a cunning plan in hand. All (very hopefully) will be revealed in a weeks time (HOPE HOPE HOPE!!!). Please wish me luck I'm going to need it!!!!!

Grow up ffs. Show me where you have seen someone 'blame' a garage for problems with their car where it isn't true/justifed.

It makes you £££££££g laugh. It's very easy for people who haven't been on the recieving end of shoddy workmanship & overpriced bills, to mock and put down people who have genuine issues with a garage. At least there are people who are willing to warn others and expose p*ss poor workmanship and other problems, in an attempt to stop it from happening to other forum members, and show these 'garages' up for what they really are. There are many, many instances where people have had serious problems with 'volvo specialists' and kept their mouths shut as to not rock the boat.

A lot can and does go wrong with lots of peoples cars. Nile's problem isn't the fault or anything to do with a garage carrying out wok on his car AFAIK, therefore of course he's not going to 'blame' someone else. But when you pay good money (and a £££££££g lot of money in a lot of cases) and get £££££ in return thats when action needs to be taken.

Sorry for the thread high-jack Niles.

If you do want some, get in touch with Marky76, he'll be able to steer you in the right direction.

Thanks Chris but the 'rods' option is not the way I'm planning to go forward & stay within the Volvo fold. I'm not blaming ANYONE except myself to be honest. Never mind, live & learn, move forward, onwards & upwards & get a little exited about my cunning plan.

Calm down Chris it was only meant as a joke as i am well aware you have had issues if you remember i was one of the first people on here that knew of your problems as i spoke to you on the phone that evening. I am a bit bored of all the moaning and bitching on a lot of topics on here and as Niles has a sense of humour thought it might inject a little humour into a bad day for him.

Tell you as soon as it's 100%. I required 2 steps before plan can go ahead. 1 of those is sorted after a call to a mate & 2nd step is nearly in place. :shy:

I give my T5 loads of stick (for over 2 years now), it now has a Rica remapped ecu which boosts off the end of the boost gauge and 110K on the clock, I have had no problems. Are bent rods mainly due to misfires or the map being too agressive at bottom end? Maybe using a MBC is the problem? I am hoping that my t5 lump will go on for a few years yet if well maintained, surely these engine can take 300bhp if set up right?

The only reason i am mentioning this is because i dont want this to happen to mine. Very bad luck Niles if HT leads caused your engine to get damaged........bummer

Really, really sorry to hear your bad news Niles,

I have had exactly the same happen to me last year, and it sucks!!!!

Hope you get, whatever your plans are, sorted soon, and keep the boost down below 17psi mate.

All the very best pal.

Dam, sorry to hear that Niles.

I must admit, although I'm only touching 1.1 bar, I've been getting away with far too long (after our Gatwick trip!) and 200k is not far away! Once I eventually move back south, I plan to give her a heart transplant and man box!

Hope you get her sorted mate.

Thanks woodster. Sad I know but heyho things happen & never mind eh? I'm still tempted to get some upgraded rods But the work involved scares me as I've never changed rods on an engine before.

Not too difficult at all, it mainly involves lots of motivation and patience!!! If I ever get to that stage, I'll go the whole hog whilst it's in bits! Goodluck buddy.
