Any one fancy a meet down this way, a Friday or Saturday evening sometime in the next six months or so ?

No mad rush just thought I'd throw it in and see if anyone's interested.

Not to far away then. Mrs P.A. used to work at Aztec West and I used to drive her up in the morning use the company car during the day and then pick her up when she finished.

We managed to put 87.000m on the clock in 18 months, mind you some of that was driving over to Ireland via Holyhead, Pembroke Dock and Stranraer. I really enjoyed doing the driving, we traveled all over Ireland as well. Saturday's we used to drive down to Dublin to have a drink in the Fisherman Arms at Strawberry Beds, just off the Lucan Road at the back of The Phoenix Park. I still love driving even with all the traffic, it's not as bad as Paris in the rush hour :)

I work at Aztec West!

Traffic is a bloody joke though!!

Think your about 20 mile away, im not originally from Bristol - Originally from East Yorkshire but moved to Bristol a few years ago, think i've only been to Weston once in all that time!

daveforber
Friday 11th September 2009, 22:26

Porcine_Aviator
Saturday 12th September 2009, 18:48
There is Castle Combe circuit?

From £170 per person or From £290.00 for a couple. Sob

Or if we got everyone in the club to pay up a bit we could rent the place for a day. Mind you I have a feeling that would cost a fair bit of dosh.

There are a total of five drag strip in the UK one's on the Isle of Man, one is in Scotland near Dundee one is North London, then there's Santa Pod and finally Avon Raceway.

Mrs P.A. says "Will she travel for beer?" :haha:

You can't even go doughnutting on the beach anymore they say they will take your car off you.

OK Peeps Mrs P.A. had a brain wave a few minutes ago, but she's all right now, and she came up with an idea for a place to go.

How does a meet up and a short drive together to The Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford sound? The A30/A303 from Exeter will bring you up and it's a trip down the A37 from Bristol, or A361 to M5 then A358 to the A303 at Ilminster. We could meet at the rest area at the Cartgate Roundabout off the A303, plenty of parking and a great place for a takeaway sandwich and a coffee or tea. We stop there when ever we go down to Dorset. Then we could all drive together to Sparkford. :rally_dri

If we can get 10 peeps we would get a discount on entry.

The details are on the Haynes Motor Museum Website (http://www.haynesmotormuseum.com/museum/index.html)

How does that sound to you?

Sorry no drag strips down here, just a short circuit race track.

Monday 14th September 2009, 20:03
How about a Saturday in October, Mrs P.A. has just told me that if we go as a group we can have a guided tour customised for us. October Monday - Sunday
10.00am - 4.30pm

So a meeting at Cartgate which is just down the road at say 10:00am and drive there.

Taunton 30 minutes
Dorchester 40 minutes
Bristol 50 minutes
Exeter 1 hour
Salisbury 40 minutes
Birmingham 2 hours
London 1 hour 45 minutes

That should help with knowing how long it will take you.

OK if you're interested in coming on a visit to Haynes stick you name down and we'll see if we can get enough to make it worthwhile. We can sort out a date that will suit most of us when we have some numbers.

I'll start it with
P.A.

We still need two more to get the discount and the guided tour, I have to let them know at the beginning of October if we want that as the curator will be showing us around.

So roll up etc for a tour around the Museum where you get to see all those big red cars.

Porcine_Aviator
Friday 18th September 2009, 17:03
And this is the other trip/get together. If you want to combine the two we could go for the last but one Saturday in October for both of them.

Wednesday 30th September 2009, 20:50
How many of you want to do the visit at the end of October? If we can get 10 then we get a discount and a guided tour. I will need to know in the next week and I think they will want some money up front.

So it's up to you.

This is not a combined trip it's just a get together for anyone who wants to come down to Somerset for a day at Haynes.

OK so who's coming on the 24th, if we don't make the 10 we won't get the conducted tour, and they want two weeks advance notice of that so I don't think we will manage it.
But we can still meet up at 10:00 am for 10:30am depart at Cartgate Services on the A303 and drive to Haynes from there.

You can see the services here on Google (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=cartgate+services+a303&sll=51.930295,-0.150375&sspn=0.251499,0.727158&ie=UTF8&hq=cartgate+services+a303&hnear=&ll=50.968836,-2.741202&spn=0.002091,0.005681&t=h&z=18)

And the weather forecast is saying it's going to RAIN!! So that's another good reason to put it off.
