How can i tell which steering rack i have, SMI or TRW :confused:

I need an inner Track rod end, it was an advisory at MOT time ( slight play ) and its been bugging me for a while now :grumpy:

I dont like things not being right especially having 4 kiddies in the car a lot of the time.

Cheers

the only way we can tell is from the chassis code, which is found on the vin plate on the inside of the passenger side front wing. as shown here:

The 8th digit of the chassis code will be either a '4' or a '5'

4 = SMI
5 = TRW

However some cars only have 7 digits in the chassis code, in these cases we cant tell which rack is on the car. If a car in our workshop needs any of these parts we have to order both options in and return the one we dont end up using.
